OT for ladies: doctor recommendation?
Hi,
This might be TMI, but I figured I would go for it. I have not been to the gynecologist for 2 years. I have extremely irregular periods, including periods that go on for months and then months were there is nothing. I am 28. I am pre-surgery. I would eventually like to have children. I am diabetic, have high blood pressure and high cholesterol and obviously probably couldn't get pregnant if I tried at this point.
I am looking for a gynecologist who either is also or works in a practice where there is an obstetrician. I don't care if it's a man or a woman and I don't really mind where in RI he/she is located. It would be a plus if this medical professional was sensitive (not blind, but sensitive) to people with weight issues. I can stand being told I need to lose weight and the serious ramifications of fertility issues that I will have if I don't. I cannot stand condescension, which is why I have not been in two years.
Thanks for the help!

Hi Fern,
I am post-surgical menopause so I can't help you from personal experience in RI.
However, you can try your insurance company. They will have a list of providers. Once you have the list, you can ask around and see what others think of him or her.
You can also ask your Primary Care Physician who he/she recommends.
Hope this helped some.
Good luck to you.
Jules

I see a man, his name is Dr. Kokturk and he is the best!!! He has different offices -in East Greenwich, Pawtucket, East Providence.
He was my doctor for both pregnancies and I think he is the best ever!! He never mentioned my weight until I told him I was getting RNY and he said he was glad becuase he was afraid I would develop type-2 diabetes (I had gestational diabetes the second time). So another plus was he was not against my surgery choice!
He is so sensitive and caring! I really cannot love a doctor more! He always makes sure you understand everything and talks you through all exams.
Here is his office number:724-0600

Hi Fern, I haven't been to my Gyn for about 2 years, but thats just laziness. She is wonderful though. She delivered both my kids. Her name is Cynthia Hanna. She has about 4 offices: Woonsocket, East Greenwich, Providence and I think East Providence and Pawtucket. She is very personable and caring. Her number is 401-751-5000. Good luck! Eldy
