Am I doing this right?

I got absolutely sick of having another shake. The guidelines are actually confusing me more now than pre-op.  I used that alternate list from Dr. Pohl's guide book. I still can hardly get in the right amount of water. I am using that Skyr yogurt because it has 22 g of protein in it. I noticed on the list that the substitutes for the shakes include the 6-8 oz of yogut. The Skyr yogurt is 6 oz. So, I take an hour to eat one. It has 110 calories in the 6 oz container.  But, I notice the guidelines say that that we should be something like 400-500 calories a day. I am lucky to get in 300.

Some days, I have only been able to do 200-220.  Does the water in shakes count towards the water needed in the day??  Is that yogurt substitution correct?  The guidelines say take 3 meals a day but a shake or yogurt wont get you to the 400-500.

I just don't want to stall my weight loss which is has slown down dramatically this week. I pulled off 19 lbs since my date of 1/20.

Any help clearing this up would help.

Thanks,

Hi Jeri!

Sounds to me like you're right where I was at this stage. It's all about doing the best you can and working toward getting all your protein and liquids in for the day.

Are you able to get in all your protein and liquids? The protein shakes DO count toward your fluid intake. Thank goodness, huh?

Did you have your surgery on 1/20 or 01/01? I'm assuming 1/20.

Another good way to get your protein in is with 97% Fat Free creamed soups prepared with skim milk (ex: cream of chicken, cream of broccoli-strained, etc). It's a good way to add some calories if you're really concerned about that. However, calories really aren't the biggest concern right now. So, no worries, k?

I've noticed that my weight loss seems to slow down when I don't get my fluids and/or protein in. So I make sure to get 60 - 80 gms of protein and at least 64 ounces of fluids in a day. I think at this point in your post-op period, the recommended protein is 45 gms.

Just do your best. It's all any of us can do. You'll be just fine!

Hey, there's a meeting tomorrow, Wednesday the 4th at Rhode Island Hospital. It starts at 6:15 and is located at the Gerry House. You can get a lot of feedback there.

Hope to meet you!

Thanks I was 1/20. my weight loss seems to have stopped this week. i may have to go back to the shakes to get that extra water in. the yogurt has 22 g in one. so, i can get 44g in. but, the water is what's killing me. thanks for the meeting info.
