feeling like a human pincushion

I went for a fill today (still no restriction and I am coming up on a year- I am so frustrated!!!!!!)

On my last fill, Dr Roye was going to have an associate do it to get some practice on me with doing a fill- no big deal.  He then started to feel for my port and changed his mind as my port was moved a bit or covered with excessive scar tissue or something like that (didn't quite catch the whole conversation).  Anyway--he did that fill with no issue.  That was about 2 months ago and today I went back for another.  Dr Roye was not in this morning, so I saw Kathleen.  I told her that he mentioned an issue last time about the port- but she decided to try anyway.  She did a fill for me a while back with no issue, so I wasn't too concerned.  She poked around and kept digging the needle around- OUCH!  She tried this several times (I have at least 4 pokes I can see but I remember more than that)  She wasn't able to hit the port so I now have to wait 3 more weeks to have a fill under flouro.  My frustration level is at an all time high.  I need to lean on you guys now because I am so ready to just throw in the towel and give up on this whole process

Why do you have to wait so long?  X-ray is booked solid until then?  (Thinking out loud to myself "why do practitioners think that what they couldn't find the first or second time they'll find the sixth time?")

Sorry to hear your a pin cushion I remember the frustration of going through the fills.  Prior to my port being moved all my fills were under fluro.  Dr. Pohl had tried to do the first one in the office and my port had turned in the first 6 weeks and we couldn't do it.  I actually didn't mind meeting him at the hospital though, he would always book me for 7:30 and would come down prior to surgery or before rounds to do it.  In and out in 10 minutes if that.

See if they can't get you in earlier, sounds like a long time to wait.  Dr. Pohl's office would get me in the next day on some occassions.

After my port was moved we went back to doing them in the office, and sometimes it was more than one stick and moving that needle around.   I'm not missing getting fills anymore.

Beth ,
I am so sorry you are still struggling!! I am not at 5cc in my realize band and I have restriction bUT in NO way does this mean I am still not struggling. It is so hard!! All the reasons I ate before are not gone and I feel i am stuffing myself to mask the pain. IT SUCKS!!!! I guess what you can learn from your year without restriction is how to handle yourself it situations that are strressfull and what to turn to instead of food!!  I would call by Dr Royes office and see if you can get in sooner. A certain someone there does not take our issues into account sometimes and makes us feel like a number!!
DON'T GIVE UP....YOU CAN DO THIS!!! YOU HAVE COME THIS FAR!!!

Thanks guys!  It just seems I'm getting more and more frustrated as this process goes on.  My husband called the office yesterday to talk to Dr Roye and let him know how I am feeling and he discussed the possibility of a more aggressive fill schedule until I am feeling something just because he know how I am feeling and he doesn't want to see me give up and go back to all my old habits.  Dr Roye said he would try and see if he could get me in any sooner for the Fluoro fill- still waiting for a call.  fingers crossed

Oh Honey!

I'm so sorry you're going through this!

Dr. Roye is a great guy. I'm sure he'll come up with the right answer for you and this will be behind you soon.

Wow! I can't believe it's already been almost a year already! Geeze! We'll have to have another bowling night in April to celebrate where we are now compared to a year ago (April 12, 2008)!

Let's make a plan!

Hi!

I'm so sorry that things are going so badly.  it doesn't make sense that you have to wait.  It's not your fault that she couldn't locate it.  You think the least they would do is squeeze you in with him to see if he could try?  You've made it through a whole year so don't throw in the towel yet!  Things have to get better.  Maybe the floro will give them a better idea of what's going on.  I don't understand that if you have no restriction, then why not put in a little more than usual.  The worst thing is that they take some out?  I know that he is conservative and appreciate that, but come on already.  After each fill have restriction for about 2 weeks and then little by little it disappears.  I'm starting to wonder if I every will.

Definately count me in for bowling or for whatever activity does not involve children, pets, work (maybe even hubby)!!!!!!
