My surgery is next tuesday and i have been following the 2 week pre-op diet.

3 shakes a day and a small 3oz meat meal at night.

During the day i drink lots of water [i'm turning into a fish i swear!], though i do have 1 black coffee a day. [only 11 calories!]

I'm confuzed, i don't seem to be losing much weight. I'm scared they won't operate.

Am i not losing because my body is in some kind of hiberation mode...??

I AM SO WORRIED HE WON"T OPERATE on tuesday.

Any help/info/shared experiances would be awesome.

I'm pretty much freaking out.

Thank you all so much!!

Hi! Congrats for getting this far! First, DEEP BREATH!  Anxiety increases the corticol steroids in our bodies and that keeps the weight on. So relax!

You know that you are following what the Dr recommended, so relax. They will operate. Your insurance co has approved you, they know that the weight is real issue.

The BIGGEST thing to do is make sure that you DO NOT EAT ANYTHING before the surgery...Follow his guidelines to a T!

Personally, I cleaned myself out 2 days before the surgey...that was really hard because I was starving! I used the last 3 days to only have broth/clear liquids, I used Miralax until I was afraid to leave the house, and then the last full day before surgery, I only drank H20 until about 9pm, I did not go to the hospital until 10 the next morning, and surgery wasn't till about 12.

My nerves were way up, so I wasn't thinking of food. Of course their scale had me 5 lbs heavier too! But, he did the surgery.

So relax, you will do fine. Follow what the girls and guys here say, Follow Dr Pohl's rules, he KNOWS what he is talking about!

You are in good hands!

Good Luck, let us know how it goes!

Hi Kadee,

Welcome to the forum!

Losing weight prior surgery is not the only concern when doing the pre-op diet.

Another concern is making the fat in our liver smaller so it's easier to lift the liver during surgery so he can see what he's doing in there.

Yet another is to make sure we are taking the appropriate amount of protein so our bodies heal faster and more easily during post-op.

So, no worries. You WILL lose some weight from this pre-op diet. I was freaking about the weight too. I was so afraid I'd get to the hospital, they'd take my weight then send me back home. It took a week into it before I had even lost a single pound, then boom! I lost a total of 17 lbs! Crazy!

My only advice to you is, most importantly, follow what your DOCTOR says you should do, including taking all your vitamins. And start moving! Walk more. Start getting used to moving more, you'll be happy and better for it after you get home from the hospital.

It's really not necessary to any more than that. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! It doesn't matter where you start (head or bum) either. Just start. You're doing great!

Please let us know how you're doing, k? Keep us updated as often as you can. Once you start posting here, you become part of the family.

Congrats on starting your WLS journey!

Jules

Hi Kadee,

Send me an email at [email protected]

I'll send you all the Rhode Island meeting information.

Meanwhile, there is one tonight at Rhode Island Hospital at 6 PM. It's located at the Gerry House and parking is in the B Lot. While at the meeting, you can purchase a parking ticket for $2 instead of having to pay the regular $4 lot price.

Hope to see you there!

Jules
