Totally out of the loop
I really need to get back and have my butt kicked around a few times...Lisa, where are you when I need you????
I am finding that it is becoming increasingly easy to fall back into old habits and food issues! I did not go through all of this to be on a Yo-Yo diet!!!!!!!
I know that I can eat more now that I am almost 3 months out, of course not what I could eat way back then, but still alot more than the first few weeks after surgery, and that is scarry!
But the most disconcerning thing is my DAREDEVIL attitude about different NO-NO foods...it is almost like I am tempting fate...I want my cake and eat it too attitude. What is WRONG with me????? And then when I eat something that is no good for me anymore, I feel like S**T, so i swear I will never eat it again, but I am a stupid a**
Help, I feel like I am drowning in my own
Ruth
Lisa when do you have a day off?
I go and see the GYN today (1st visit since surgery) we will see what she has to say.
The incision site is very sensitive and at times painful. I still have to be careful about how much I lift. I was thinking...can some of this daredevil eating be "bordom eating, or even a little depression eating (not saying that I am depressed, although I have had SAD in the past, I do not feel like I have it this year...I did mention this last part to my PCP already and she agrees)
Well, I think I am going to do what Julie told me to do eons ago...WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!!!! I am also going to mark my h2o bottles 1,2,3 & 4 so that I know that am getting all my water. (I drink 16 oz bottled)
Any other suggestions (that I should already know--what an idiot I am!)
All in all, believe it or not, I have not gained any weight, and lost a little...but it will change and destroy me if I do not get back on track...these have not been healthy choices, and New Years or not, I need to make better choices!
Kick away!
Okay Darlin' Ruth!
Stop beating yourself and start doing what you KNOW you need to do for yourself! The only way through this forest is THROUGH it!
You've already admitted that you're having problems. That's the first step. Good for you!
Now that you've asked for help....accept it! And try the advice given to you. No excuses! Go to a meeting and listen to what people are saying. Don't talk, just listen. Take notes if you have to. But really listen to what the others are saying.
You're only three months out...if you think your 'hunger' is back now, wait until you're six months out! The real physical hunger returns and you can eat far more than you ever expected! Time to roll in the hose and start fresh!
Your window of opportunity to lose the most weight is NOW! You have another three months of the best weightloss! Take advantage of it. Like you said "New Year's or not". Start fresh.
Maybe this will help?.....These are the 10 things that help me the most. I didn't get them from a book. I just sat down and wrote the 10 most important things that keep me going on this journey. So this is what works for me...
1. Ask yourself, where to I want to be three months from now? Set a goal or two for yourself. If I set something to reach for, I am more able to pay attention to what I'm putting into my mouth.
2. Record EVERYTHING! Including extra (emphasize on extra) activity. If I have to take the time to write it down or enter it into a website (I use www.myfitnesspal.com), I think twice before eating it. AND I get to see everything in black and white.
3. Develop a routine. If I keep myself vigilante about the times I eat, it's easier to keep track of my food intake. Also keeps me from getting so hungry I reach for anything just to quiet the queezyness. I get out of bed at different times each day so my routine isn't based on an exact time. It's more based on hours in between meals. I eat every four hours and only have one snack a day. It works for me.
4. Sip, Sip, Sip....tha****er. Good idea with numbering the bottles. I did that for my first three months or so. I still carry my Crystal light with me where ever I go. Like Dory says....Just keep sipping, just keep sipping, just keep sipping, sipping, sipping.....what do we do....we sip, sip, sip.
5. Protein FIRST and foremost! Are you getting in your 60-80 gms a day? Are you eating your protein first? Protein keeps us full and satiated longer! When planning your meals, be sure to have at least 50% of your meal as protein (eat first!), THEN 35% complex carbs (veggies - no butter) and if you can fit it, THEN fruit for the rest. This way, if you get full, you've got your protein.
6. MOVE....whether we go to the gym, stay home, walk the malls....we MUST MOVE!!!! And move more than we used to move! When I let the dog out, I walk around the pool a few times while she's doin' her thang. Why? Because I'm moving. It's way better than standing there freezing or standing inside the slider door watchin'! CALORIES IN....CALORIES OUT! That's what it's all about.
7. Go to SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS.....As many as you can muster up! Studies show that the most successful people who have taken the weight off and KEEP it off are the people who attend support group meetings REGULARLY! Even if all you do is show up....you'll get something out of it. It doesn't matter how you dress, how you feel, how you get there. JUST DO IT! (Send me your email, I'll email all the RI support group meeting information to you--see email in my signature).
8. HAVE AN ANGEL!!! The one person you can say ANYthing to. Who will kick your bum when you need it and hug you when you need it too! And call her! How do you choose and angel??? I chose Laura to be my angel because she inspires me. She's successful in her weightloss, sets goals and attains them, is honest and caring and is always there for me! She's my family!
9. For once in your life...PUT YOURSELF FIRST! It's hard for most of us to take this role. Most of us, especially if we have children, tend to nurture everyone else! If you read my blog, you'll see I was always depressed and on the outside looking in. My family has always been #1, #2, #3, etc. There was never a place for me. Now, as much as some people are hating it right now, I have moved myself into the #1 position. And you know what? My family is happy about it. My old friends don't like my life changing but my kids and grandkids are really loving it! Maybe cuz I smile from the inside now.
10. Research and information - Keep yourself updated. Read books, explore the net, talk to people, see your surgeon when you're supposed to and of course................OH - keep coming on here. Commit yourself to post 'something' 'anything' every single day. Whether it be a new topic or a comment to someone else's post. Communication is key. Staying open to communication is so important. We're human beings. That's what we do.
Well, I know this was long. Sorry, but these are what really have helped me for the past, almost seven months. I think these 10 things are what makes me tick right now. And if it works, don't fix it.
I hope it helps!
Happy New Year!
Jules
BTW, tonight's RW meeting is rescheduled from the regular RW meeting that occurs every forth Thursday of the month because of Christmas. Hope you can change your plans and come anyway.
For Info about Rhode Island Support Groups, please email me! [email protected]
I was supposed to go out tonight, and thought about changing my plans and coming to RWH, but then my husband got called in for OT, so I am home with the kids.
I will tell you, and not as an excuse, but I find that I 'slip' easier when the kids are home...otherwise, I can take my time and plan out my meals, have time to get in some exercise, and the stress is LOW...but add the kids, and even though I have changed some of their eating habits (yeah!) I still find myself buying the crap that they like to eat, and then I slip and help myself too...I really believe it is HEAD HUNGER, because I am really not hungry...only once in a while, but that is when I do not get my protien in.
Well, please let me know the next meeting ASAP so that I can plan for it now. ( I like the meetings with you, but is the other lady still doing a meeting too?)
Hope to talk to you soon!
Have a Happy New Year!!!
