Incision Question??

Hi Everyone hope all is going well!! I know you all have not had PS yet but was just wondering if have ever experienced this with other surgeries. On one part of my incision there was what appeared to be a black and blue mark right on the incision but is leaking a yellow fluid from it. Talked to doc on call and said it means that this portion of the incision did not heal and basically the skin looses blood supply. They said it is normal. Just makes me nervous. It is now yellow and to me looks like a blister that popped. Well again thanks for your time.

Hi Di,

I would have to see it myself but it sounds like it's okay. Just because it's yellow fluid, doesn't mean an infection.

Is there an odor? Do you have a low-grade fever? Is it red around the black and blue mark? Is there more swelling there than the rest of the incision?

I only have my Medical Associates Degree so I'm not a doctor but if it were me, personally, I would keep it clean with Witch Hazel and put Triple Antibiotic ointment on it. I would keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better within the week or it gets worse before then, I would go see my PCP.

I hope this helps a bit. Call me if you need anything. k?

Hi Jules!! You know what is funny I kept saying to Paul we should call Julie she would know what to do. I didn't want to impose I hate to bother people.

No there is not an odor, I had a low grade my first week out of the hospital they put me on levaquin and it went away. Last week it came back went to the doc on call Wednesday (at this time the fluid and bruise was not there and draining out) he said everything looked fine but put me on Levaquin again just in case. I am still getting temps of 99 to 100.5 or 6 was the highest but only at night.

No the incision itself is not more swollen but my lower abdomen is swollen due to fluid building up again.
The doc on call yesterday and today(same doc LOL) said to put neosporin on it and dressings to absorb it. He said that it was a portion of the incision did not heal and the skin actually dies ecuse of blood flow. He said it is very normal for my procedure. That is what I have been doing. I just get nervous. I will call my surgeon tomorrow to hopefully see him.
Thank you again and I am definitely going to call you!!!! this is part of my New Years resolution to call and keep in touch more via the phone I need to get over that fear. :) :)
Love ya---Diana

Hey Diana,
I had the same thing happen to me when I had my gallbladder out.  The fluid get under it and some time make like a blister and leaks from it.  Does not  sound infected.  Keep an eye on it. and if it seem to not get better call the doctor back.  I had one that heal on it own and another spot  that caused me some problems. If you want to call me pm me and I will send you my number.  Kinda hard  talking about it without  grossing everyone out on here.  lol..
