Hi.  I am new on here.  I am scheduled to have my surgery this Tuesday!  I will be having the Lap Band.  Any pre-surgery advice from anyone?  I am really excited, but I am getting a bit nervous too....  Any info would be apprecaited.

Thanks!

Hi!

Welcome to the Forum!

I didn't have the band but I'm a true believer in getting your rest and being sure you're taking all your recommended vitamins and protein prior to surgery.

Also, drink your fluids!!! So important to be well hydrated when going into surgery.

Make sure you have all your ducks in a row and you have all the foods you will need the first two weeks after surgery so that you're not worrying about what you're going to do to get all that protein in.

Please let us know how you're doing once you're home and up and about!

Again, Welcome!

Hey there!   Congrats on getting ready to have your new band!  I had mine in September and I LOVE it!  My advice is to bring a few things to hospital with you...chapstick, an iPod if you have one (it helped me sleep and block out some of the hospital noise) and a pillow for the ride home.  I would also suggest you walk as much as possible,  even if they don't tell you to get up and walk, do it when you feel like you can...it helps a lot with the gas pains.

It seems really scary now, but it is a piece of cake...one minute you are awake and nervous, and the next minute you are awake and it's over.  You don't even remember the stuff in between.  Good luck!!

Just thought of one more thing!!!!!

One more suggestion.....

TAKE YOUR MEASUREMENTS TODAY!!! Then measure each month.

I just did my monthly measurements (with hubby). I've been getting discouraged because, as expected, my weightloss has begun to slow down. However, I have new-found joy because the measurements still show a fantastic loss!

We measure my:

Neck, Upper Arms, Forearms, Chest, Waist, Hips, Thighs, Knees, Calves and Ankles.

What a difference in each!!!

Have fun!

Jules

I had mine done by Dr Roye 2 weeks ago.  Don't  get worked up-it's really a piece of cake.
Bring lip balm and lotion if you tend to dry hands (the hospital's the driest place on earth)
Get some broth and SF drink mixes for post-op (it's pretty much all you can have)
Good luck-enjoy the ride
