IVC filter???
Yes. I had an IVC filter placed after I had a blood clot incident three years ago. (See my profile for details). While my IVC filter resulted as the direct result of a blood clot that had already occured, it was placed to prevent additional blood clots from getting to my heart and lungs. It was a fairly easy and painless placement. I was awake during it all and watched the process on the screen next to my side.
If I had not already had an IVC filter, my surgeon would have required one to be placed prior to surgery due to my risks. It really was an easy procedure, and can save your life if you are high risk.
Good luck with it and your surgery!
Vicky
I had already been admitted to the hospital for an emergency hearty surgery (3 yrs ago) when my IVC was placed.
They did the procedure for the IVC the evening before my heart surgery the next day.
Does Dr V want you to go in for IVC placement as a separate procedure prior to RNY?
Please be assured that the placement of the IVC is relatively simple as procedures go. There was a very, very small amount of discomfort at the groin afterwards, that's where they place a tiny little cut, and slip the IVC up through the vein (at least that's how they did it for me). It really wasn't painful or difficult to recover.
