Good to see everyone at Mariam WLS support group
Hey BigRhody,
It was really great meeting you last night at the meeting. You talk about the last supper syndrome. OMG I sure can remember that. The 1st time I went to the doctor I weight in at 323lbs. Then I gain and went up to 345lbs. Then with Dr. Pohl he put you on a fasting diet 2 weeks before surgery. I lost 20lbs in that 2 weeks. Now it has been 7 months and 4 days and now my weight is 192lbs. Best move I ever made. Good luck on your sleep lab. May you get your date soon. Have a great holiday.

Hey!
It was so great to meet you!
I had my last supper with a 3 1/2 lb lobster and ALL the fixings, along with a few Margaritas! I basically felt like I was going into the feast or famine mode! So, I feasted every single day until I started the two week pre-op diet because I thought for sure I was entering the famine stage!
I'm almost six months out and I have to say....there is NO famine! I can eat the things I love the most (lobster) just without all the fat and sugar I used to load things with. And I am very very satiated. I go out to eat once or twice a week. I cook for my family. I'm doing so much better than I thought I would.
I had sleep apnea and was retested about two months ago to find out that I don't have it any more.
I was so scared prior to the surgery. When I finally got a date for the surgery, I was ecstatic but scared to death!!!! Afraid of the unknown, I guess. But then again, I was afraid everyday anyway, about my health and where my life was (or wasn't) heading. All my questions had been answered except for what I would, personally, go through. All that was left was to just go through it!
And here I am on the other side. No regrets and not afraid anymore.
If you have any questions, this is the place to ask. There are no stupid questions! Chances are, they've been asked before or someone else out there lurking is too afraid to ask. You may be doing someone else a favor by asking.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Jules

As for the last supper syndrome- I think we will almost all admit to it, though I was told that Dr Roye would refuse to do the surgery if I had gained weight since my first appointment. I was so afraid of this and gaining any weight at all. My first apt with him was last year right around this time- before Turkey day and the other holidays whi*****lude TONS of food!! I did eat (a LOT), but then worked my tail off (and did slim fast for two weeks) to get rid of any weight before my last appointment. I actually ended up losing 10 pounds from the first apt to the one when he scheduled my surgery. (though I might have gained it back between that apt and the actual surgery)
And as for being scared?!?! I am a big ol baby!! Even when they draw blood or give my band a fill, I always remind them what a wimp I am. I was scared as well, but got through everything with flying colors. I actually remember waking up in recovery convinced I was at home in bed and had not had my surgery yet (man- those were some good drugs- lol)
You will do wonderfully and we are all here for any questions!
