I just had a large hernia repaired and went for a post follow up and everything went well. I do have a little fluid where they put the mesh but he said no big deal it could be drained in a few weeks if it doesn't go away. At the time of my surgery they removed all of my fluid in my band. Dr. Pohl said he was surprised I didn't gain any weight after surgery but lost and was very happy. He said I really didn't need any fluid since I was doing fine but I said nope I need that band filled.  I don't know if anyone else fells mind over matter if you know the fluid is in there you think different anyway I said nope I need my fluid back. He put in 3 cc's and I felt fine. I left his office stopped to get an ice coffee. I took one sip and the pain started. OH MY GOD I thought I was going to have a heart attack. My chest hurt sooooo bad I was crying. I called the office and they told me to come in ASAP. I thought my death was coming but once they took out the fluid the pain was gone. I can not believe how much it hurt. Now I am afraid to get a fill. I know my pouch must still be swollen and that added to the heart attack feeling but do you think if I start from the begining I will ok for is my stomache just to small now???? Also does anyone have problems with there lower back since surgery. He told me I lost a lot of mucsle in my back and will need to go to therapy.

Hi Kristen,

I'm glad to hear your hernia site is okay. I'm sorry to hear about the band-fill pain you experienced. I can see why you would be shy about getting another fill in the future.

Perhaps your body has just been through too much in the past few weeks and needs more time to heal. I hope that's the case for you. I'm sure Dr. P will make sure you're going to be just fine.

I have had problems with my lower back because of degenerative disk disease and my hips because of osteoarthritis and I thought (magically) I would lose the pain once I lost a lot of weight. I've lost 96 pounds and still have pain but it's more manageable now. But with winter coming along...the days are getting longer for me.

I hope things work out well for you. Any chance you can come to the new support group on Wednesday at Roger Williams @ 7PM? I'd love to see you there!

I wish I could make the semiar this month but next month I can. As for my back, I never had any pain when I was heavy now I can't stand the pain. I went to my general practionor and he refered me to a orthopedic Dr. and I guess I they will take Xrays and stuff. My appt. is the day before thanksgiving, Iam going to call tomorrow and see if I can get a appt sooner. Will keep you posted. Remind me when the next meeting is so I can put it on my calendar.
