Hi Everyone
I've been lurking for awhile and I have a question.
How long after surgery (gastric band) was it before you were up and about.
My daughter's X-mas play is 2 days after my surgery-do you think I'll be able to go?

Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary,

To be honest with you, I was a little beat up feeling on my second day.  I had my surgery on Fri, was home on Sat and felt kinda rough on Sunday.  It's not as drastic a surgery as RNY, but it still is surgery and you need to take some time out to get well.  I didn't have Dr Roye, so maybe his patients felt differently, and I am also 51 yrs old, so maybe the younger folks here had a different experience, but I can only share mine.  I began to feel a lot better by Tues, tho still on the tired side.  Good luck with your journey!

Oops, just wanted to add that I was up walking while I was in the hospital, and was walking 1.5 miles through my neighborhood before the first week was up.  I went back to the gym 10 days after surgery, tho I was only using the treadmill.  Hope that helps.

Mary,

Kind of iffy on you going to the party.  You are going to be sore and bending will be uncomfortable.  They will have you up and walking around in the hospital. You are probably going to want to take in easy for the first few days.  Also,  I ended up staying in the hospital an extra day, nothing serious, but you may opt to also.

HI Mary! I was pretty easily exhausted on my second day post op. Not in any way trying to discourage you from going, but perhaps you should make sure that there will be a chair for you to sit in and someone to drive you to and from. I wouldn't want you to get stuck some where because you were too tuckered out to get home.
