Appointment with Dr. Roye on Friday

Boy he is sure a cutey!!!!  I cancelled for Friday and my new apointment is November 7th. Only two weeks away.  I'm not sure who I'm seeing, but I decided that it didn't really matter.  I know that he would not let her do fills unless he was 100% sure and I do really like her.

Did he seem reluctant at all to do another fill?  I know that we should expect around four before restriction, but I'm getting worried that I just won't get there.  I know it sounds silly, but 4.5 cc is halfway full.  After my last fill I had restriction for about three weeks and then it just disappeared and I want it back!!!

He wanted me to wait a couple more weeks for a fill. I felt like I have some restriction but not a lot. I told him I felt I was overeating and was scared to do damage WHICH HE SAID i COIULD Not! He wanted to know how much will power I had to use. I said about 50%. I told him I was a t a 3 week stand still with weight loss and that kind of got him to give me the .5cc. I was on liquids the last 2 days so I really don't know if it helped. GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks guys for all the kind words of encouragement.  I am going to pour my heart out to Kathleen tomorrow and see if she has any insight.  I did not go through all of this for nothing and I know my stress level about is certainly not helping the situation.  I will let you know how I make out (and how she is for fills if I get that lucky-  I have a 10 cc band with only 3.5 ccs in it).

And thanks for the smile- Thinking of Dr Roye and his looking like he just got caught by his mom sneaking a cookie smile

I saw Kathleen today and she gave me a fill.  I am now at 4 ccs (I was wrong about what I had in before- I only had 3 ccs).  She was great at giving me the fill- one poke was all.  The only thing- I did not feel that strange feeling of the fluid going in when she did it.  I know she got the port because they pull some fluid out to make sure they have the port first and some came out.

Anyway...Verdict is- I would have no problem what so ever about seeing Kathleen again for a fill- and I am a wimp.

We spoke about how I have been feeling, and my not losing weight.  She explained to me that what I already knew about restriction and it may take some time to get there.  We discussed my thyroid and how I am still getting that under control and stabile, and we also discussed something I wasn't aware could make a difference.  Because I was considered a "lightweight" and starting BMI was just over 40- I may have had a lot less fat around my stomach itself- so the band was not making the contact like it would for others.  This made a huge deal of sense to me- esp since I only felt anything for just 3-4 days after surgery, and then was starving!  I feel a bit better and recharged for now.

I am so glad that things went well for you and that you are feeling better about the process.  I'm glad that she could shed some light on the situation for you.  It does help when things make sense verus scratching your head wondering what is going on.

My new appointment is not until November 7th and I'm not even sure who it is with.  I didn't think that he would have her do fills if there was any problem but it is a little nerve racking to have someone else do it.  I am a wimp too and I actualy get a wierd reaction that I hope they can explain to me.  I get dizzy, nauseous, confused, my BP goes up, heart races, etc.  I have also had this same reaction when I got my flu shot???

Hopefully you are even closer now to your sweet spot and things will start moving again.  When I look back this was such a huge process and really a major surgery.  Don't give up!!!!  It is so hard to keep motivated but you didn't go through this for nothing!!!

Hey Jenny, Jamie and Alexia,

Please hang in there. The fill process is slow. There will be appointments were Dr. Roye just says No Fill.   Dr. Roye has been doing this long enough to know when you need one.  He does not like to hear that you are putting all your success behind the band doing all the work,  you have to work with it.  It is a tool to weight lose.  Think of it this way-  A computer can only work if you are behind it.

I've been through it and know that it does work.  I've had all the same thoughts that you have.

Much support,
Nancy

Thanks Nancy!  I just have felt like, at this point- something should be working.  This just feels like another diet and another failure.  I lost 10 lbs before surgery and only 20 since- and it has been 7 months.  I have been working at this.  Inches are definately being lost and toning up- but I know that is the exercise and not the band.  I guess at this point I am just really losing patience and it is just one of those demons I have to battle past.  Doing better since Kathleen shed more light though.

Alexia,

Everything you are feeling, is everything that I felt.  Your feelings are not abnormal.  Your fills have not hit a comfort zone.  Once you get there you will definitely look back and say that "now you understand how the band works",  It just takes time getting there.  I had 4 fills, a total of 2.5 in my 4 CC band, I think it was over a course of 9 months.  There were times that I begged for a fill and Dr. Roye totally refused me.

Please Hang in there, it is a wonderful tool to have.  I miss mine every single day.

Nancy
