Home again, home again...jiggity jig!

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the prayers and good thoughts. I have to say a big thanks to my true ANGEL, Amy T for posting what was going on.

What she stated was true, I was doing extremely well and even progressing to a puree stage. On Thursday I started to have back pain and I thought that maybe I pulled a muscle...but how, I have been careful not to lift. Friday morning at 3AM my mom woke me up as she was having problems with her blood pressure and needed some monitoring. (She suffered a heart attack a few years back) I stayed in the room with her and slept on the recliner. So on Friday morning I the pain was about a 3...I attributed it to sleeping on the recliner. But through the day it waxed and waned between a 3 to 7. My husband bought me a heating pad, trying to alleviate the pain. I had stopped taking the Darvocet on Wednesday, only using Tylenol, but by Friday I took a Darvocet again, and even that did not touch the pain. On Saturday I called Amy and picked her brain, wondering if this was a kidney infection and what she suggested...of course, call the Dr.

Dr G thought that maybe I got behind the 8 ball, and said to use the Darvocet every 4 hours and see if that helped.  She also said it could be a leak, but it was very odd of hearing of a leak after the 1st week. (BTW, Saturday AM I was lying in bed and feeling better when all this ensued). So, I get up and take the Darvocet, and took some Yogurt, I couldn't even eat 3 tsp, I started feeling nauseous. I laid down for 2 hours and the pain left, got up to take a shower and did OK, so my mom suggested a cup of soup for lunch. (By this time, counting protein was out the window). It went down well, but within 15 minutes I was in excruciating back pain and recalled Dr G.  She said come in the ER right away.

They took me right away and although my vitals did not show any signs of infection or fever, she wasn't going to chance it. They ordered a CAT scan with dye. (That red stuff is so nasty!) I managed to get in most of the dye by pacing myself, and of course the Dilaudid did help!!!

The end result was that I had what looked like an obstruction, but they could not determine exactly what it was, and that I have an 8 cm (think size of a grapefruit) cyst on my right ovary!

The Dr is thinking that this is pushing up on my intestines, causing the obstruction. They put me on clear liquids, which went down fine...only the slightest nausea at times, no vomiting!  I eventually started passing gas again and after much labor had a very small BM. (sorry for details)

Dr. G talked to Dr. P, and they did not believe that there was a need for surgical intervention  concerning the intestines at this time. They do recommend that I follow up with my GYN ASAP and get this cyst situation resolved. Since everything is closed d/t the holiday, I will be on the phone in the AM.

So, I have no kidney infection, the intestines were dilated d/t the stool/gas that was backing up, causing pressure on my spine and kidneys...all due to a LARGE ovarian cyst. I just had a pap smear and this was NOT detected...so off I go, more Dr's, more poking, more prodding.

My poor husband is a mess because his beloved mother died in 1996 at age 50 from Ovarian Cancer...I do not want to jump to any conclusions, but it is still too close to home for him!

Well, I will keep you updated.

Again, thanks for all the prayers!!!

Love,
Ruth

RUTH!

I was so worried about you! I'm so happy you are home and safe!

I had severe poly-cystic ovaries for years. Very very painful! I had several surgeries for that. I, often times, had to have them aspirated right in the office with ultrasound guidance. Also painful but what a relief when it was over! Sometimes antibiotics can help as well.

But you probably already know this stuff because of your nursing history.

I'm just glad you're home!

Please let us know how you are doing, k?

Hi Ruth, I sent you a message on your profile, but I wasn't sure if it went through.  I had a cyst on my left ovary, the size of a grapefruit a few years ago.    Yes very painful.  They remove it along with the ovary and everything was fine.  I came home the same day. The sonogram indicated that it was the kind of cyst that is made up of hair  and nails, don't ask . I have no clue what that meant, kind of gross. The good thing,  it wasn't cancerous.  Keep staying positive.
Love
