On the LOSERS bench!

Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know that I am home! I had a LONG 3 1/2 day stay at the hosp...the surgery went well. I was a NERVOUS wreck the morning of the surgery and even thought of post-poning it. I had lost 38 lbs pre-surg, and knew that I could lose more, but have always gained back the original wt + more!
So, I went, I was SO scared and nervous, I started to cry and tell my husband how sorry I was that I allowed myself to get so fat. I even told Dr Pohl that I was the dumbest person in the whole world to actually do something like this to my body....his response..."Maybe in a few months you will think that you were the smartest person in the whole world"...then he ordered Versed, and the nurses came in and gave the "first ****tail", I asked to have a moment alone with my husband, I remember hugging him and him saying a prayer with me to help calm me down...and that is all I remember until I woke up and promised the person who was pushing the gurney up to the room a pizza if they didn't hit my bed into a wall/corner! haha...just out of surgery and I am already thinking of food!

Well, the first day was good, and the morphine helped...roommates were another whole story...BRING EARPLUGS or an Ipod!

I was so glad when he told me I could make my own shakes, so I did (hospital stuff looks like wallpaper glue!) and then I started "sipping" or so I thought...who knew that a mouthful was like a gulp???? I felt SO full...felt like someone was blowing a balloon up inside my abdomen...but I did not throw up.

So finally back at home, I find that the shakes repulse me, so I am adding unflavored WHEY to clear soups, drinking Isopure and Crystal Lite...and all the way obsessing about how I can get in 45-65 grams of protein in a day! It is SUPER HARD. Today I figured I got in 32. I am not drinking as much because I am always thinking...is this protein?

You know when I was fat, I never obsessed about what was in my mouth or how much, I just ate and of course never felt full (only a few times), now it seems like that is ALL I think about...food, what kind, how much protein...and right now there is not much to chose from....Still on stage 1...will go to stage 2 on Wed/Thursday...should I wait i whole week of eating...that would be Friday.

Well, I still have some pain and discomfort...and the Lovenox shots are a stinging *****!, but I take the Darvocet about every 6-8 hours. (can have it every 4, but do not want to over do it).

I hope that every day gets better, I am walking, and even though I have not vomited yet, I have come close...esp while laying down (waited over 30 minutes after eating)...that was scary...got up too fast and think I pulled something...no fever or excruciating pain...just mild persistent discomfort (Left mid side)...will call Dr tomorrow when making appt and will mention it.

So, for all you well wishers, Thank you!!!! Keep the prayers coming!

~Ruth

Ruth ~ You're home!  Must feel so good to be out of the hospital and away from noisy roommates.
I too found balancing the food, protein and fluid intake a challenge when I first came home(and even to this day really).
About the only thing I could get near was sf popsicles.  The 32 grams is a great start.  You'll build that up, you'll get there.
Will keep the good thoughts and prayers coming.

Hey Ruth,
Welcome home.  I am so proud of you .  You did a great job in the hospital.  Sorry I didn't make it back up to see you but,  we were having some problems with my mom and the doctor. I had to handle that.  Needless to say it was a very stressful day.  She came home on Sunday.  If you need anything let us know.   I know for me and everyone is differant, I had to wait 2 weeks before I could eat any kind of food and then it was only  soft stuff.  I would check with the doctor when you call him.  To be sure.   Again great job glad your home and welcome to the LOSERS BENCH!!!!!

Congrats..I have tears in my eyes because I did the exact same thing right before my surgury. I also do not rememer anything. I am sooo darn happy that you did it. That is a very scary thing those moments right before they drug you up but in a few weeks you will look back and be greatful for your supportive and loving husband being there right by your side. Get in what you can...NOBODY gets in what they tell you to right away. It will get better every day. Good luck and welcome to the losers bench!! It feels good!!
