Misinformation ??
Sounds like you've been talking to some uninformed people.
I am 10 1/2 months post-op and I eat pretty much whatever I want within reason. Steak is great protein and I have it often. Of course, I get lean cuts and it is usually grilled and instead of a big baked potato loaded with sour cream, I have some vegetables and maybe a couple bites of potato with I cant believe its not butter and some lowfat cheese or greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
Its all about eating right. There may be foods you have trouble with. I had a lot of trouble with broccoli in the beginning, but now I'm learning how to cook it so that I can have it. Breads and pastas are trouble foods for some people because they dont break up easy. No matter what you eat, you will have to chew it well and eat slowly. There will also be the possibility of dumping, so you want to stay away from sugar and sweets. But, then I'm sure you already knew that part.
I would really recommend that you read up on the boards here and do some research. People will scare you and tell you all sorts of things when they dont know.
Best of luck to you, and always know we're here to answer any questions you have.

Hello,
I am not sure why someone would scare you like that. That is awful..Anywho I am 4 years out and I am able to eat anything. The only think I need to watch out for is milk and excess of sugar. The way that I explaine is once you are fully recovered I would say a good year an or so and then on you ccan pretty much eat what the stanard portion size should be and the food groups that you should be eating from. I hope this helps.
