6 months will go by alot quicker then you think. It's all for good reason too.
Good luck and focus on the bigger picture while working on getting healthier.

Your time will be well spent.  I had to do 3 months with the nutritionist and a personal trainer for my insurance company, and I learned SO much during that time.  It prepared me for what was to come after surgery.  It seemed like forever when I began those 3 months, but they passed quicker than I thought they would, and I lost weight in the process.  You will do well, and you will be on the loser's bench in no time!

The 6 months seem like forever but, trust me it is worth it.  Hi My name is Lisa  Welcome to the message board.   Like to wish you lots of luck on the smoking and  on your journey to the surgery.   Any question you might have this is a good place to ask.  I am almost 6 month post op now and  have lost 129lbs so far.  I know with me  having this site and the people on this message board help me a lot.  I hope it does the same for you.  Again welcome again.
