Different Dr's will have you do some different tests- but a lot are basic to all.  The psych eval is one of the standard tests- they are basically looking to see if you have an eating disorder and if you have the coping skills to replace a food crutch with something else.  I was terrified over it but actually enjoyed talking to the Dr I saw.

There are a few patients here that have Dr Sax- Most will be glad to answer specifics you may have about him and what he expects.

Also- same with bypass patients.  I had lapband surgery, so I would direct bypass questions more toward those patients.

Know that no question you are worried about should you ever feel is "too stupid or trivial to ask"
I am sure we have all asked it, thought it, etc

A really good resource book I used- and still use is Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies- local library has it or amazon.com has a good deal on it also.  It goes through lots of testing to expect, what to pack, how you may feel after, great recipes for all phases after, etc

I realized I am giving you a bunch of info without much REAL info.  For that- feel free to read profiles, a lot of people put all info of testing including timelines and the whole story.

Welcome to the board!!

Welcome aboard!   Just visit this site often and you will learn a bundle.  I have learned so much here.  The people are so supportive and eager to help.   The questions and concerns brought into this forum are informative to all of us whether we have had the gastric bypass or the lap-band.  Here, they don't care which one you have, we're all in this together.  I have not had my surgery yet, but feel at home on this site.  So, my advice to you is to keep on checking us out.  In fact, you may have information that would be helpful to us without you even realizing it.    Again,  welcome!      ELdy

Hello.  I'm 4 weeks post-op from a Lap RNY and had surgery with the same doc your going through your initial assessment with.  New in the post-op process, but certainly feel free to send a PM my way if there's any questions I can answer or thoughts I can share.        ~ Sandy

Hello! Welcome to your new home-away-from-home!

Seems you're already on the right road in your journey. Seeking info is a giant step in the right direction!

I had RNY in June and am very happy. No regrets at all. My doc is my Savior!

I worked closely with my regular doc to get all the necessary referrals I needed for all the pre-op testing that needed to be done. They are listed on my profile.

If you has specific questions, please feel free to ask them here. If we don't have the answer, we may be able to direct to a place or person who does.

Again, welcome! Hope to see you stick around!

Jules

Hi I too am looking for some guidance.  I went for a consult on the 11th for a lap band, the Dr advised me to have by-pass.  This is due to sweets being my down fall.  I have already had my blood work and go for my ultrasound tomorrow.  All my test should be done by Oct 30th. I had researched the lap band but not so much on by-pass. Any thoughts.
