Hi all -
I had someone from work ask me about my experience with RNY and would I recommend it.  I was wondering how all of you would answer this question.   I felt like I just jumped right up on my soapbox and went on and on about the subject... how good I felt, how my health has improved 100%, etc...

What would you say?  I thought I might put her in touch with this web site to see what you all say

Thanks!

Pam

Pam - I do the exact same thing! Right up on my soap box I go (despite my recent slip up). I remember when I was pre-op anytime I mentioned it, someone always knew someone who died, had complications etc and that was all I heard. It was a relief to hear that there really was a good side to it. Several people at work have asked me about it and I just answer their questions, tell them how happy I am and tell them that I am an open book and will answer any question they have. I *always* tell them about OH so they can get everyone's opinion.

Spread the word!!!

I would say everyone is differant.  For me I can tell you it was the best thing I could ever do.  For if I didn't have this surgery  I would have taken bet that I would have ended up in a w/c . The plus side to this is your health gets better.  That is a big PLUS too.  I take less medication now. I can breath so much better now.  and once this hip is done you can bet I will be hitting the gym again.
The minus side.  If you can believe there is one. You will never eat the way you did.  You have to learn a whole new way of living life.  For some people this does not come easy.  God knows I have had my days.  Some poeple think is all about the looks, being skinny.  It is not it at all and if this why your doing it  I think it is the wrong reason.  For me it was my health and that should come 1st.  I think given he/she this site is great and I would also have to her to one of Dr. Pohl's meeting at Roger Williams to learn more about  it and what you have to do to get ready for it. That will make up her mind for sure.

I guess that is what I would tell her.  This is a tool not a fix.  you have to fix yourself  The doctor doing the surgery for you just give you the push.
