when b  i was at the seminar, Dr. pohl gave a formula to estimate how much weight you would lose.

he said the band would be around 40 lbs and the bypass would be 60 lbs, does anyone know how to figure out the weight loss?

I think he probably said percent not pounds of your excess weight

like if you had 100 lbs to lose, you would lose 60 lbs with bypass and 40 lbs with a band

Hi!

Percentages sound about right. It's different per person though. There are many things to consider....exercise, how much we have to lose to begin with, age, eating healthy, etc.

I can only speak for myself...I am almost three months out from RNY and have lost almost 64 pounds. My official weigh in is tomorrow. I'll know more then. LOL

Welcome to our Forum! Hope you stick around!

I think what he was referring to was percentage of weight loss. You will lose 60% of your EXCESS weight with the RNY and 40% of your EXCESS weight with the Lap Band - however, that is just a statistic.

Personally - I had RNY on October 23, 2007 and as of today I have lost 195 lbs. My starting weight was 427 and Dr Giovanni said that she would like to see me at around 200 lbs - so far I'm 33 lbs away from her goal - my goal however, is a different story

Good luck!

you would need to know height to figure out this also.  You need to know what your "ideal weight" is for your height.   This site has BMI (body mass index) calculators to help you figure this out

ok,  i am 5'2 and weigh 220....my ideal weight is 135

right now my bmi is 38-40  does that help with trying to figure out my % weight loss

thanks

220-135= 85 lbs excess weight

RNY 60% of 85 lbs = 51 pound loss

Band 40% of 85 lbs = 34 pound loss

I had RNY 6/4. I had 128 lbs excess weight and have already lost 1/2 of it. Which is 50% of my excess weight. I'm positive I'll lose way more than this. There's no way I'll only lose another 12.8 pounds for the rest of my life.

It all depends on how you use this tool you have received from surgery.

If you abuse it, you won't lose it.

Cool.   Thanks.

I feel that the bypass is just  the kick  in the ass that I have needed all my life, and there is no way that if my insurance does approve me, that i will EVER be this heavy again

I have lost 92% of my excess body weight with the band...so these numbers are averages...
