Heads up on Bloodwork/Labs

Today I called Dr. Giovanni's office to re-schedule an appointment and when I was speaking with the office staff the woman mentioned the bloodwork to me and asked that I go at least 2 weeks prior to my appointment. She then added "No vitamins the entire day before and a complete fast for 12 hours prior to the bloodwork" - I told her that noone ever mentioned that to me before and she said "It's new, we were getting false readings before"

This really shocked me because I've never heard this mentioned before at all - so just and FYI for everyone going for your bloodwork - remember, no vitamins the entire day before and a complete fast for 12 hours prior to the bloodwork!

Thanks for posting....I have my appt. with Dr. Pohl on Sept 11 and nobody mentioned anything to me about the vitamins! I did know about the fasting, though. Hmmmm, it makes me worry about all the times my labs were good...was it just the vitamins from the day before??

That is what concerned me too - wondering if the reason my labs were good was because of taking my vitamins the day before... this time will tell the truth.

They didnt reschedule your appt Krista? I had an appt on the 8th but they called me and said they needed to reschedule that Dr Pohl was going out og town and would be gone until the 22nd. You might want to give them a call just to verify that he's going to be there!

That's weird...I had an appt on the 8th and they called and rescheduled me for the 11th, I'll call today to make sure they didn't screw up! We should all mention to them that we have not been getting the proper info about the bloodwork (I knew about the fasting but not the vitamins, you knew about the vitamins but not the fasting?? WTF??)

Thanks for letting us know Laura, I have to get my bloodwork done next week for my upcoming appt so I'm glad to know about this. I've been told no vitamins the day before, but not about fasting.

Thanks,

When Dr. Pohl gave me my paperwork at my last visit, he told me no vitamins for 24 hours and fast for 12 hours prior to the blood work. It says it on my bloodwork form too.

I AM a bit concerned about my appointment being on Sept 15th. I'm calling them today.

Later Alligator!

Hey Lovely Laura!

My appointment is at 2:45. I just called the office to confirm. My appointment is definitely with Dr. Pohl. I see him in East Providence and they said he's the only one who goes there. I'm sure your's must be in Johnston since Dr. G. is your doc, right?

I am having my bloodwork done Thursday. They told me to have it done two weeks prior to my appointment. So, no vitamins for me for the day tomorrow and I'll go in the morning before I go to the gym so I don't have to starve myself. LOL

I can't wait to see you Thursday!

Love ya!

Jule

Yes, I'll be in Johnston at 9 am. I'm excited for my appointment and can't wait to see what she thinks!

Good luck with yours too - see you Thursday.
