Hi everyone, i was wondering if you guys could help me out.. i am going in fri for my surgery, im not sure if i am staying over.
I was told it depends on insurance and patient needs sooo my question is..is there anything you wished you had brought (or not) to the hospital with you..i have chapstick, loose fitting clothes and a pillow to hug on the way home all ready but maybe im not thinking of something...thank-you Kim

-i wish i could have made it to a meeting to meet most of you before my surgery. i feel like in some ways i already have...but i am going to go to the first one they have after my surgery and i am able to drive...

bring something to read or a book of puzzles to do- though once I realized they would let me out of bed- I did not stay in it.  I would get up and walk around the halls and when I got back to the room I sat in the chair so I could wander som more later.  I had a roommate that had all sorts of weird company- so I didn't want to have to be confined there (plus they would take over my side of the room too!!)

Kim,

I didn't know if i was staying either, so I didn't take anything.  I ended up staying 2 nights and had my mom bring things that I wanted with me. I wanted my cell phone, my hair brush and shampoo, deoderant, my toothbush, robe and slippers.  They pretty much provided me with the essentials ( toothbrush, baby shampoo, mouth wash) but I wanted my own.

Good Luck on Friday
You'll do fine

HI,
Good Luck to you!!
I had open RNY so I was in for 4 days. I wanted slippers to walk around, bath robe, cell phone and the normal bathroom stuff you would bring on vacation.. I guess it all depends on how long you are going to be staying but even if it is only one night I would say defiantly robe and slippers!!!!
Good Luck you will do Awesome!!!

The first time I had no roomate and was all alone. it was peaceful and nice. I spent my time resting.
The 2nd time (band slip) I was in much longer and had a roomate most of the time...I would of enjoyed an Ipod or MP3 player. Something that could of helped me tune out because I was not feeling well.
As far as personal items......I brought stuff like a house coat, slippers and all personal products that never got used...was just more for me to bring home and unpack.
I never got out of bed after my initial surgery, other then to go to the bathroom. I was in so much discomfort the first day and the pain meds were making me sick so I stopped taking them. The next day I felt better but went home.
I would bring just what you think you might need or enjoy without over doing it. Good luck tomorrow.

For me what got me through the hosptial stay were magazines (was too tired and out of it to read a book, but mags are great to browse thru) and an mp3 player.  I had a roommate who crank the tv and and flip from station to station, so I just put on my music and tuned him out.

Good luck with everything.
