Exactly 1 year ago today....

Exactly 1 year ago today I knew that my life was going to change. Today, last year, was the day that I received insurance approval to have Gastric Bypass! I remember calling the insurance company first thing in the morning and speaking with a patient advocate who told me that my request had been approved.

The word "excited" doesn't even begin to describe my feelings when I heard her say the word "approved"!!!

I immediately started crying and couldn't compose myself.

The patient advocate was so sweet - she said "I know how you feel, I had RNY last year!!!!!"

What an awesome day!

My life is 1 MILLION times better!!!!! I had surgery on 10-23-2007 - I've lost 190 lbs and still losing!

I must say that I have learned that the most important thing during this journey is not the weight that you have lost, it is the life and experiences and friends that I have gained!

Thank you all so much for your support and friendships!

Hey Laura,

This was a good post!  I know that I cant wait till the day that I get to hear that I am approved for my surgery....I am not sure that I will cry...or at least I may not admit it, ya know go to keep my macho image and all!

I am so glad to hear that your life has changed in so many ways as a result of having the surgery...I know for one that you have mentioned on here how wonderful it is to be able to go horseback riding again.....I know I have a few things that I am looking forward to when I do lose the weight.

This board and the group at RW are a great support for me. Everyone there has been nothing but helpful and supportive to me as I am in my liquid diet phase. I encourage those who are new like myself, and to those who may be lurking and thinking about WLS that they try to come to one of the meetings regardless of where you have or will have the surgery.

Again you should be proud of what you accomplished so far...I know all your friends are!

What a wonderful celebration day this is!!  You have done SOOO well and it hasn't even been a year since the surgery.  You share so much of your self with everyone here, and support all of us!  This is a little of what you give coming back around.  You deserve the best!

Laura,
That is a great story.  It also made me cry.  You are so right when you say you gain friends with the new life.  It is all a gift.  The greatest gift anyone can give us.  I feel blessed that I have met you and others.  Keep up the good work because you keep me going also.  Today went to see Dr. Pohl.  They where very happy with how things are going as of today I have lost 105lbs.
I can't wait to see how it will be when I hit one year.

Your friend here always
