Hello,

I am scheduled for surgery on 08/20 and i was wandering what kind of shape will i be in when i come home from the hospital?

How much Pain can i expect to be in?

Will i need assistance at home with my daily needs such as Bathing and Dressing?

hiya - welcome to our group!

What kind of surgery are you having?  I had RNY and by the time I got home I was still pretty sore but could care for myself.  Stairs were a bit of a challenge the first few times but got easier every day.

As for pain, I was sent home with liquid lortab (I guess it's liquid vicodin) - I don't do well with narcotics of any kind so they basically made me sick feeling.  I switched right over to JR. Tylenol and that eased any pain I had just fine.

I was fine with basic things like bathing and dressing and such when I returned home.  Things for me that required assistance were cleaning (especially things I had to bend to do) and cooking for the family.

Best of luck to you - please let us know when you're home from the hospital!

Pam

Hello,

When I came home from having my surgery I was sore but, not to bad.  I could wash and dress myself.  I even managed while the hubby was at work to make my own protein shakes.  Your very tired the 1st month or so. That is normal. Just go slow and remember walk walk walk.  That helps to get you going.  The more I walk the faster I felt better.  Even if you start out with small walks around the house at 1st.

Lisa

Good Luck

I had lapband surgery and had one night in the hospital.  I was sore when I went home and so glad to be off the pain meds they gave me (major headaches!!).  I just took liquid tylenol when needed and was fine.  I slept on the couch for a few days in a reclined position because sitting up from a fully reclined position was the only thing that really bothered me.  Bathing, dressing, etc- I did alone just one day out without effort.

Make sure someone is with you the first day home in case of any complications.

Good luck!!

Hi and welcome!!! Congratulations on your up-coming surgery. I had RNY and when I got home I was sore, but not too bad. I really didnt need help doing much except putting my socks on - bending down after abdominal surgery isnt fun!

I'm glad you found us here.... come back soon!
