Dumping Syndrome..

I know in our support group at RW we have been seeing some new faces...so I thought I would throw this question out there for the fairly new people( like Vicky and myself) and some of the new new people. I realize that everyone is different with regard to this happening...so maybe those who have had surgery could give their input.

What are some foods that you ate that made you dump? I have been told that some eat certain foods to test the waters realizing that they probably shouldn't be eating them and others have eaten foods which they thought were safe and dumped...

Just curious which foods made you dump..

Good question Rob. I havent tried anything really out of the guidelines - I've had 1 Hershey Kiss at a time - or something to that affect if I feel like having chocolate...

One thing that makes me feel funny is Frito's - they arent "that" bad for you because its just corn - but they are high in carbs and fats and if I eat a little too many I get very tired and feel very disconnected for a little while. Not too severe - but definitely not a fun experience.

I try to stay within the guidelines because if I eat something high in sugar and dont dump - it will just give me all the more reason to eat it again... thats where willpower will come into place and I'm not too good in that area!

I find that I still can not eat bread of any kind or anything with sugar. I will get sick. So I try to stay away from the sugar or high carbs.  So far I am not doing that bad with it.  I would think high carbs is a good thing to stay away from.

I always keep it under 10 grams of sugar because then I know I am safe.  I agree with Laura on the Fritos.  I ate a small amount of potato chips one time and became immediately exhausted and needed a good 30 minute nap to recover.  I have only really dumped 2 times because I try to be so careful.

Hi Rob,

I dump on cereal(if I have it with milk), and anything really high in sugar. I can tolerate a treat if it is after a meal.  If I was to have a high sugar item without protein I dump.

Hey There Mr. Flirt!

So far I haven't dumped on sugary stuff because I haven't tried any. I only eat complex carbs like fresh/steamed veggies (no corn or peas or taters or alcohol yet either).

Howevah! I had 97% FF popcorn last week and was fine and happy with me 1 cup serving. Then, of course, my daughters and I had a gals night. I made THEIR popcorn with melted butter and salted it.

I finished my popcorn. Walked by their's and took one. Walked back by again and took a handful. Let me tell you......I dumped all night long. I was so neausious and sick I had to cut the night short and go to bed! The next morning I felt fine except the diarrhea! Ugggh! No more popcorn for me!

Then, one day I made a really yummy chicken stir fry. The whole family enjoyed it and I did just fine with it! Two day later I heated it up for my dinner and threw it right up!  Sneezy I think I just ate the chicken too quickly. Thanks goodness I had a waste basket nearby.

I believe in what Laura does, if I don't try to push the dumping buttons (especially with deserts) I won't know if I will dum*****t.  I Love Candy But I would much rather 'THINK' I'll dump if I try it than to try it, find out I don't have dumping syndrome, then get back to my old-unhealthy ways. You know?

Also, today for the first time, I got really neausious and had to pull the car over to throw-up. Nothing came up bu****er! I think I may have just gone too long in between meals. Blaaagh!

Have a wonderful week!

Jules
