Maintanance
I know I'm still a bit away from my goal - but - I'm wondering if anyone knows if any of the hospitals offer classes on maintance. I got thinking this morning - we had a transition class (offered at Gerry House at RIH) for pureed to regular food - but do they offer anything to help with maintaining weight?
Any info would be appreciated!

good question!! I know it was part of the topic last month at the Miriam meeting (preventing a slip from being a slide- or something like that)- but not a whole class on it. Wish I had answers for you. I know they do a lot of really helpful topics at the RI Hospital meetings, the new schedule should be up soon. It is under lifespan.org support groups
Hey Pam,
Does Dr. Roye and Dr. Ryder have a similar 'class' at RIH? You can try emailing Camille and asking her if she knows of anything. She's the facilitator at the RIH and the Miriam support group meetings. Her email address is: [email protected]
Good Luck!

Hi Pam!!
I know at my last NUT appt, she told me that the following appt would be time to start talking more about maintenance and she'd want me to get in around 1600 calories a day (ummm...never thought I'd see the day I couldnt fathom being able to do that but it scares the crap out of me!!) So I would suggest talking to your NUT.
I'm not aware of any classes, but if you find out about some, please let me know. I'll go with you!

HI Pam, and everyone that posted regarding maintaining your weight. It's been over 2 years since I had my RNY and most food especially carbs go down very very well. I tend to go up and down about 3 or 4 lbs...I have to weigh myself everyother day. If I dont , it creeps up. Last week I was 203lb today I am 206lb because I didnt go to the gym this week, I sort of blew it off doing other things. I dont really do much in the gym other then some Nautilus for my upper body and walking on the tread mill but it helps burn the calories.
My point is that after having the surgery a year of so out maybe more depending on your body, your pouch gets a bit larger, and you can handle a lot of foods..so be careful. Tomorrow I am off to the gym HONESTLY!!!!!!! . I wish there was a maintenance class, as I would be the first one there.
