had a really fun day today!
We signed up for a thing from RI Parks dept called the Great RI Outdoor Pursuit. It is to try and get RI'ers out and to see all the great parks we have in the state and enjoy the outdoors. It has a few corp sponsors, and the state. Every few weeks, there is a clue on the RI parks website, and you figure out where the location is, and head there. All sorts of activities and hiking, biking, etc.
Today started at the rest area on Rt 295 in Cumberland. I had no clue there was a bike path there and it went to several museums. We started at the visitor center there with a climb on one of those portable rock walls. We then hiked a mile down to a little house/museum. We took a tour, got a game from Hasbro for completeing this, and could canoe on the Blackstone also for just a $5 donation. We did all this and hiked back. Along the way, there was a tree identifying scavenger hunt type game. Each of these activities got you another raffle ticket for prizes later that day (not sure what they were). All I know was- we really had a ton of fun as a family, got our butts in gear, cooperated and didn't flip the canoe, and got a heck of a work out.
Not sure if you can still sign up- but I would soooo recommend checking it out- even if you can't sign up. I think the website is riparks.com.
