Possible issue with codeine....

I know how you feel.  I get violently ill from codeine too.  I am glad to hear that you are feeling better.

Wow Angela, what a story!  Some meds to inflame the liver which isnt good over the long run if you dont know it's happening......It's good thing that your body reacted that way..honestly..I know this because of my son in law who had a liver transplant two years ago.  He was taking meds for something and his liver became diseased.  I dont want to scare you..honestly, he had some genetic thing with his liver as his mother died of a diseased liver too.  But I think thats why we really have to be careful on what we take as RNY patients.  I also think that there havent been too many studies taken on exactly which meds react to RNY patients.  i.e. taking NSAIDS.  I take them only when  I really have too and very sparcely.

Also, I am allergic to codeine.  Years ago, I was given codiene and had the same reaction like you did but not half as bad.  I had projectile vomiting from it.  (vomiting very severly and very hard.)  Since then, I have never taken anything that has codeine in it. Many people are allergic to it too.

Hey Angela.. hope youre getting better quickly and my Goodness.. hope that wont be happening again. I have taken Codeiene and seem to have tolerated it very well. I havent had problems with any meds.. in fact i am currently taking prednisone and that seems fine too. Be well and take care!
