anyone here a patient of Dr Roye??

I am a lapband patient of Dr Roye's also, but have not had to make an emergency call.  I would be horrified if ANY dr I called had someone unable to answer a question for me, and would not be able to refer me to someone who did.  To me, that is unacceptable!   I would call first thing in the morning or if things worsen- head to the ER.

Hope thigs gets resolved for you!  Let us know and I wish you the best.

Hey Alexia..thanks for the reply.  Guess what??  I called in sick to my NEW job today hoping to get in to Dr Roye this morning and he is in a meeting!!  WTF!!  I am so mad and feel so guilty leaving my co-workers short...not to mention my boss is going to be uber mad because being short staffed in the medical field is sooo not a good thing!!

The NP told me that she is going to page Dr Roye in his meeting and he will probably call me to talk to me about my issues.  Kathleen (the NP) told me that in the future if there are any problems to head to the ER...they would page either Dr Ryder or Dr Roye to come in.  Good to know I guess..so just an FYI for you..hopetully you will never need it over the weekend!!

Take care

Kristen

Kristen- I hope your issue is resolved quickly!  Sucks to have to call in sick- esp to a new job, knowing that you are leaving people more to do.

Good to know about heading to the ER if you get no answer.  I see Dr Roye on Friday- maybe for fill number 2.

I have a barium swallow tomorrow morning so hopefully he will call me by the afternoon. Just frustrating you know?

Good luck on your 2nd fill...you have done great for only 1 fill...way to go!!  I love Dr Roye...he is a great guy...but I will be speaking to him about the on call situation because it was really scary knowing that the one on call had no clue about the band or issues....

I agree- I love Dr Roye also- but dread most of the other staff there.  It always seems like I am such a bother to them.

Good luck with the barium swallow!

Hey Alexia,

Thanks for asking...Well, I don't have a slip, but had an extremely swollen stoma from vomiting.  The x-ray Dr told me to stop after 2 sips of the barium.  He said I was so swollen that it was barely trickling down..it was pooling in my esophogus.  They called Dr Roye from the x-ray dept and they said he was teaching a training class and they would page him...I went over and he came running in and took 1cc out of my band.

I told him about the on call situation and he was really upset.  He said that the on call Dr did not even tell him I called over the weekend and that he should have paged him with it being such a problem.  He said it is unacceptable to go that long in pain and swollen.  He told me next time just go to the ER and they will page him or Dr Ryder and take care of it ASAP.  He said that he should be aware of ALL of his calls that come in when he is not on call and was not notified...He was so sweet and felt so bad.  Thank god he cares about his practice and his patients.

I know what you mean about calling the office sometimes and feeling like a burden, but just know that HE does not feel that way.

Take care,
Kristen

I am so glad you found out what was up and it is being resolved.  I love that about Dr Roye, how he  is so involved and such a caring person.  How great that he came in right away to take care of it also (well, right away after he found out about it at least)

I wish I would of read this sooner...I could of helped alittle. If you enter through the ER....you will wait hours just like everyone else. If you have any problems, don't even wait last minute (after office hours) unless you have no choice. Try to get into the office. If your surgeon feels you need to go to the hospital and be be admitted, have the surgeon direct you though admitting, NOT the ER! They can call that in! If you ever have to go through the ER...you will see the ER doctors first, regardless...and yes they don't know much about WLS. They will then contact one of the WLS surgeons. They won't just send anyone from the office in. Dr Roye and Ryder work in a office with a big team of surgeons but only 2 are WLS surgeons. They may not be the doc on call but one is always on call for WLS patients.

Hope you are feeling better!

Wow, 1st of all congrats on your weightloss!!  You have done fabulous!!

2nd...thanks so much...That is why I sufferred and waited till Monday to call Dr Roye.  I didn't want to go through the ER and a general Dr...the on call kind of wanted nothing to do with me.  But Dr Roye knows the situation and was very angry...so at least the bedside manner/options may change in the future...let's hope anyway.

Thanks for thinking of me...I am feeling sooo much better after having 1cc taken out.  the swelling is finally gone today and I graduate to mushies..after a week of liquids ****il I got it fixed and after getting it fixed).  Makes me respect my band more..even after almost 2yrs out, we still all make mistakes...I was dumb and think I didn't chew enough before swallowing..hence being stuck for 12 hrs...but at least I still have my band and it didn't slip!!!

Take care and thanks for the reply!!
Kristen
