Hey Everyone!!

I am officially 18 days post op today!!!!! I had a few "bumps"in the road, but all is well!! Since I have been home, I can't get enough of the Food Network!! OMG, it is crazy! I love to watch the prep of different kinds of food, and the shows that feature restaurants---I LOVE!! I am not hungry (much), and I don't want to eat the food, but what is up with this fascination!!!!!

Any ideas?

Aimee - it's funny you should mention this... last week I was home from work for 2 days with strep throat.  I was camped out in my bed watching mostly the food channel.  I couldn't figure out why I felt like I was hungry all day!  lol   But I did find some recipes that I can convert to WLS friendly recipes - especially roasted tomato soup!  Maybe you can try to do tha****ch shows that are low cal/fat friendly and those that aren't - see what you can do to convert the recipe to something you can eat. good luck! Hi Aimee!

OMG! I totally understand! I'm 19 days out and finding it isn't so easy to adjust.

The guidlines we are given for post-op and for the rest of our lives don't include the actual addiction we have for food. I guess that's where the psych suggestion comes in.

I'm okay with watching the food commercials and such. The food network would probably bring me almost over the edge! I just want to get up and lick the TV!

My thoughts are:

We are mourning our 'friend' of many many years. It's like looking at photos after someone we love passes. It takes time. As time goes by and once we are able to 'eat' foods, it'll get better.

AND, we are creatures of habit. For instance, I'm putting away the groceries the other day and pouring the pickles into my tupperware container when I automatically grab a pickle and start aiming for my mouth! I suddenly realize "Hey, I can't do this!" and put it back. Habits are VERY hard to break.

HEY

Pam has a great idea! Turning the foods into 'friendly' foods certainly turns it into something positive!

So, How are you feeling? What stage are you on? I'm on stage three, pureed. How's it going?

Jules

Hi All.  I guess that's why it's so helpful to read this every day!  I was just sitting here at my desk thinking that I can't wait to eat and watching the clock for lunch, and I'm not hungry at all!  I just want to eat!  I decided to check in on the board to regain some inspiration.  Thanks everyone!   Jayne

I became addicted to the food network the day i came home from the hospital. Fisrt i was like "Oh I'm so hungry that looks so good" and then I was like "Oh I bet that smells awesome" and then It became "I bet hubby would eat that"!! Hubby says I've become a much better cook since my band, and i thinki have to thank the food network for that one!!
