Hi OH community! How are you guys doing.  Good to see your continueing the mini goal tradition...I like that! I haven't been on the site in about 3 months, mainly due to training for the Providence Half Marathon that took place last month.  The training process was a killer but I did it!  Thanks to those of you who supported me in my first running event ever!  Dreams do come true, especially after bariatric surgery!  Just an update...I'm 10 months out (gastric bypass) and this week marked my 100 pounds lost...forever! I'm between sizes again.  You all know what that's like.  8's are getting loose and some 6's are tight but as Tim Gun say's "make it work".   When I started this journey, thought a size 12 would be good enough for me I never imagined being in single digits...a 6 at that.  According to charts I should weigh about 147 but if I stay at 161, I am more than satisfied. Good luck to everyone and I'm sure you'll all share in my sentiment when I say...post op life is even better than I had imagined it would be.   Landa

HI Landa, Great job on the marathon.  I have been thinking about finding a 5k to train for..I find that my lungs and my mind feel like they give out before my body.  Any suggestions?

Hi Danielle,

The best advice I can give you is to find your own pace.  No matter how slow it is, don't try to keep up with others...you should be able to run at a pace where you can hold a conversation.  If you're running alone, try singing to yourself or reciting a mantra like," everyday I'm getting faster and faster".  If you can't do this without getting extremely winded...you need to slow down.

I started at a 15 min. mile by the end of training I could run a mile in about 12.5 min.  Remember your only competitor is yourself...finishing is the goal.  Good luck n I hope this helped

Hi Landa!  It's great to hear from you!  I've thought about you laterly and wondered how your training was going and if you ever did run the marathon.  CONGRATULATIONS!!  What an accomplishment!  I am SO proud for you!  I am in the gym most mornings myself, and I know what dedication it takes to be an athlete (tho I am not one myself.....yet).  I'm sure all that traning has helped you to so quickly attain your new svelte self.  You are an inspirtation to me!!  Welcome back!  Hope to see you at a support grp mtg soon.

Hi Aracay,

Thanks for the warm and encouraging thoughts.  I'm happy to hear that your hitting the gym...it truely makes a difference.  Training did help me tremendously!  Prior to joining Team in Training I was in the 190's and my weight loss had slowed down quite a bit.  The day after the race I weighed 163 but soon put 2-4  lbs back on.  Today, I'm at 161 and I haven't done any type of working out in over 2 weeks.  Just been lazy and dealing with somethings.  But I hope to continue running.  I'm going to try my best to make it to this Thursday's group...hope to see you there. Yep, I'm a firm believer in working out.  I've been going to the gym consistantly since I joined in Oct.  But now I have added a trainer into the mix, to document my workouts for my insurance co, *****quires this before they will pay for the surgery.  It put me back 3 months, but it's really been ok.  I like having the direction with my strength training.  Before that, I was just working out on whatever machine was empty, in addition to my aerobic workouts, but now I am targeting specific muscle groups (no machines, only free weights, dumbbells, and pulley), and I am definitely seeing much better results.  The exercising is not an issue for me, the food is!  But I am working on that as well, in preparation for my new life after WLS....and to satisfy Aetna. I think it is great that you are still losing, even since taking a break from the running..Your metabolism must be nice and fast now.  I hope you will continue to run, especially now that you know you can!!  It will be nice to take a run for the h#ll of it, instead of having to train for a marathon, yet knowing you actually did one!  You GO girl!!  I am looking forward to being able to run without all the extra "bounce".
