Hair Loss?
Oh, Hairloss! So far so good but I'm just beginning my post-op journey. I had RNY and didn't know LapBand recipients also have hairloss. Is that usual and expected as a result of both surgeries? Jules

Most say it starts 3-4 months out. Some never have a problem. For the most part...it's due to rapid WL although we don't loose as fast as RYN. I guess other things can contribie to it also.
A friend of mine who had RYN told me to try Biotin, she has been using it. I'm gonna give it a try. I have thick hair to begin with...and even now it's far from thin. I'm loosing a good amount everyday in the shower, then whatever else I loose during the day/night. I don't think I'll ever be bald...but don't want to go thin either.

As far as I understand from my nurse, you can't prevent the hairloss. If your body is going to drop hair as a result of the trauma of surgery & being in starvation mode, then its going to do it. The Biotin helps with hair re-growth. I'm 2 1/2 months out & just now noticing slightly more hair in the drain & on my comb.
Hi, I had lapband surgery at the end of November and I have had some hair loss. I think it was about April when I really started to notice it. Whenever I combed my hair, I had lots coming out. When I ran my hands through my hair, some came out. In the shower, some came out. I felt it was a lot but no one but me noticed. I have very thick hair like you so I think that helped. It stopped about 3 weeks ago. I wouldn't sweat it though, especially if you already have thick hair. Good luck! Jules
