Need to Vent

Bear with me while I vent a bit... I finished all my pre-op testing on May 2nd- followed up with Dr. G's office and was told they would call me when all my reports were in- I gave it a week and followed up with them- they had all my reports and would be submitting them to United Health.   That was on May 16th. Last Friday I got a vm message from Dr. G's office on my work phone- I don't work on Friday afternoons so I got the message this morning and called right away- WELLL... it seems that they never processed the insurance request- she was calling (a MONTH later) to let me know that she would be submitting the info today- ARE YOU KIDDING ME!??!?!  Why did you wait a month?  I had called the office twice to check on it and all I got was "there is nothing yet from the insurance company"- well obviously if you don't submit the information there won't be an answer!!! My work schedule is pretty tight and time off is at a premium since the other girl I work with will be out on maternity leave beginning the last week of August.  We CAN'T both be out at the same time without it causing some serious issues... so... the clock is ticking and i'm beyond stressed out.  I thought I was set and that I would be getting an answer this week. UGGHHH! Sorry to be so negative- i'm just very frustrated right now with the lack of communication I have been having with the Dr's office.  I love Dr. G but I'm more than a little disappointed in her office staff. How long did it take for your insurance to come back with an answer?  I have United Health.  (one more major timing issue is that my company is switching our health insurance to a new BCBS Managed care system in January). I am so sorry..I feel your frustration. Unfortunately...it's out of your hands and getting upset won't change or make things better. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be submitted this time. I don't have UH so I can't offer any advice there. As soon as you get the approval...call the surgeon's office and try to get in ASAP. Maybe even explain your situation alittle so that you can have the surgery early August and be back before your co-worker needs to leave. Good luck with your approval!

I know exactly what you mean about the insurance approval process. I went through the same thing and ended up faxing the documents to the insurance company myself to get the approval. I was approved within 48 hours. Keep a close eye on it and call your insurance company to make sure that they have the submission and are working on it.

I don't blame you for being frustrated!!! That is outrageous! I would suggest, like Laura, following up with the insurance company in the next day or two. Then you will know if they received your paperwork and also maybe get an idea from the insurance co how long it normally takes them to review a case for surgery. Good luck!! Hopefully you will be able to get everything scheduled in plenty of time!

I completely understand your frustration! I have Dr. Pohl. My situation wasn't as bad as your's. They just submitted my insurance using my SS# instead of my husband's as the insurance ID number. I called Cheryl and my point of contact at Tricare, literally, every single day! I fell ya! Sorry you have to go through this. I would definitely suggest you talk to Dr. G. about this. I was an office manager for an oral surgeon's office (once upon a time) and know the income depends on the staff's efficiency. Good luck! Jules

I have BC/BS and was approved pretty quickly, did my tests, and finally got my date of July 2 only to get a call last week telling me that they were going to postpone the surgery till July 11. So see, even if all goes well with one thing, there's always something waiting in the wings to mess it up!

Im so sorry. I know it is very frustrating..My insurance approved pretty quickly I have BCBS plan.

But my appointments with doc were pretty spaced out so I had to repeat certain test. AND today they called with my surgery date and my pre-op testing date.  And I told everyone that knows im having the surgery. then they called me back ,and already changed the date on me.. its still going to be in the same week but they will let me know WHAT?? WHEN?? so I totally get it ,,, thanks for letting me vent . your actually the first person i told, I was to upset to tell anyone else

It's crazy! It took me months to make up my mind about the surgery, I finally get all "my ducks in a row" and they postpone it. AAAAAHHHHH!

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!  I'd be so ticked as well.  I'm so sorry this happened to you Pam
