Well...  I know I havn't posted too much here.  I'm a bit of a lurker Anyways, I am through all of my post op testing and have an appt w/ Dr. Sax the first wk in July which will be the appt where we schedule a Surgery date. BUT!!!!!! I was just "let go" from my job today.    I actually LOVED my job, and my boss recently had RNY and was very supportive.  My work is having financial problems and can longer afford me. I was told there are eliminating my job.  Which is weird because I run a department.  This is so devastating.   I've been crying off and on since 2pm this afternoon. So does anyone know of a surgeon who will give me my surgery in 2 wks before my health insurance goes away     LOL ~ UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so F***in close ~

Call your surgeon and explain to him what happened...maybe they can do your operation or can you opt for COBRA? It's certianly worth it for a few months. Carol b

Julia I am so sorry.  This is just a bump in the road and unfortunately they come in all shapes and sizes.  You might take a bit longer getting over your bump, but you will!!!

Sorry to hear about that Julia, but they say things happen for a reason... maybe your life needs to be taking a new direction now. As far as coverage.. the Cobra Act will be the way to go.. if you are able to swing that for a bit. Best Wishes!

Thanks for all your kind words !! Just got off the phone w/ Dr. Sax's office... They are going to email Dr. Sax to see if there's any way I could have the surgery before I lose my benefits.  They said they'll get back to me by Monday. I hope I hope I hope... Does anyone know how much COBRA is ?  I'm sure it varies.. right now I have BCBS RI.

Julia, that is awful.  I'm so sorry.  If you can swing the COBRA, do it because you'll have it for post op stuff too.  Between paying for office visits, nutritionist, etc. it might be worth it. Good luck!

Go with the Cobra...even if it costs $1000 per month...the cost of the surgery is $28-30k cash price...and if you let your insurance laps you could have a pre-existing condition with a new insurerr. for the cost of a few months to cover yourself...pay the $1000 or $2000 to get you over the surgery then cancel it.     Having WLS coverage on your insurance is priceless....I can tell you first hand! Yah I agree. I'm waiting to hear from my (ex) boss how much COBRA costs and how long it lasts for.

My husband changed jobs and we had to hold onto our insurance for two months. It is worth it to hold on to it. You do not want a lapse in coverage, It is not cheap but you are to close to stop. You maybe able to ask your employer if you could just pay the cost and be kept on there plan for another month or two.  Thats what we did.  We payed the premiums, and our new insurance just kicked in. do not make yourself sick over this. I am sure it will work out. I knw how you feel, i was a reck as well and it worked out.
