5 days will be here so soon! Were you scheduled to see a nutritionist? I'm wondering why you don't have a diet plan on paper. It's part of the required testing pre-op.  I can tell you what my plan is...but you should still see and talk to someone whether it be your surgeon or a nutritionist.  week 1 is clear liquids week 2 is full liquids week 3 & 4 are purees and mushies week 5 and 6 are soft foods The fact that you have no post op eating instructions worries me. Not following proper care and eating could cause you to fail or even cause some serious post op issues. Please talk to your surgeon before you go into surgery!!! There should be no physical work or any lifting over 10 lbs after surgery. Light housework is ok. Walking is great. After 6 weeks is the standard for getting back to normal life and workouts.  As far as the puppy...She can sleep in bed with you but she should not be jumping on you. It's not about hurting your port. It's about hurting you in general. You will have about 5 incisions that will need healing. Jumping on you will cause discomfort. I will say this...sleeping in bed might be tough for the first week or so. I slept in a recliner as getting in and out of bed was tough, not to mention very uncomfortable to even lay flat and on the side was impossible.    A call to your surgeons offfice tomorrow really should be at the top of your list. You seem to be going into surgery blind folded!  Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

I completely agree!  I have not had surgery yet, and probably won't until Aug sometime, but I have a document that tells me exactly what I can eat and when.  I got that info from the nutritionist, back in February.  Those questions should be answered by your doc.  Hopefully you will get them answered before you go into surgery.  Take hold of your health care, it is all about you!

I'm glad you will be seeing the nutritionist Thursday. It's one of the most important appointments you'll need for post op.

As always...we'll always be helpful on this board but everyone must follow their doctors rules. If a problem should arise...it will be dealt with by you and your surgeon. That's why it's so important to follow your doctors orders. We can only guide and help you.  Trust me when I say you WILL NOT be able to sleep on your belly. I too am a belly sleeper and due to that I got very little sleep for awhile. Because my band slipped a couple of weeks ago..I had to have the surgery twice. Sleeping was no better the 2nd time. I did heal quicker the 2nd time because my port was never touched and that is the most sensitive area you'll have post op.  Ask your surgeon what you can take to help you sleep. While in the hospital recently...they gave me Benadryl through IV to help me sleep. When I came home I used the Benadryl quick disolve strips. It didn't help me sleep all night but it helped get a few hours of deep sleep.     Being nervous is understandable. The best thing to do is make lists! I had to do this. I even made a list for what I will bring to the hospital with me because I didn't want to forget anything due to nerves. You'll need liquids when you come home. Chicken/beef broth, jello, sugar free drinks and sugar free popsicles. You'll most likely be on that for the 1st week. Every surgeon / nutritionist is different.  Your day is almost here!

I should of added this... If you take care of yourself post op...you should be able to sleep on your belly 1-2 weeks later. What I mean by taking care of yourself is no lifting and no physical activities. When you go to stand on your feet from a sitting position of any kind...use a pillow to press againt your stomach. This will help with causing any added belly soreness. This along with proper diet rules will help you heal quicker.

I was also a belly sleeper and do not have a recliner.  The first two nights were not great sleeping, but after that I was fine.  I was sleeping on my back - which wasn't as comfy - but trust me - you will sleep.
