ok lapbanders i was wondering on average , how long did it take to return to work? Im just trying to get an idea..and about the sleep study.. i dont think i have sleep apnea, and it is not a required test.          are there symptoms.. or did any of you just decide to go for the study and find out? I am all done with my testing and didnt opt for that test now im second guessing myself and thinking maybe i should do it.  thanks KIM

Depending on what type of job you do, how physical it is, would be on how long.  I think most people with lapband take a week out of work for desk type job. Are you sure that the sleep study isn't a requirement- as it is a big factor with anesthesia.  Most people are surprised to find out that they do have sleep apnea.  I think the only real symptoms are if you sleep- but don't feel rested and maybe snore.  During my sleep study, she also checked for spasmatic movement of my limbs- mostly legs.  I think she was looking for something other than apnea with that though.

I took 3 weeks off post op and was glad I did. I was not in pain at that point but I was very tired. I am on my feet for 8 hrs straight, part time.  As far as the sleep apnea....many overweight people do have it. Most don't know it. I'm considered a light weight starting this journey at 220 and was very surprised to find out I had sleep apnea. IMO, the test is very important when going under during surgery!

Hi Kim!! I'm not a LabBander but I did the sleep study. I snore loudly and wake up tired even if I've slept a good 8 hours. This is why I did the sleep study. I found out I have sleep apnea in the process. Although I have had several surgeries and never had a problem with stopping breathing during or after, with these symptoms, hubby and I thought it best for me to do the sleep study. Dr. Pohl requires ALL men over 40 to have it but only women who have symptoms of sleep apnea to have it. I know a few women here who never had the sleep study done and had no problems. It's up to you. You can google sleep apnea symptoms so you can make an informed decision. Good luck! Let us know, k? Jules

HI Kim, My job can be very physical - I work in IT an often find myself on ladders pulling cable through the ceiling or crawling under people's desks.  I took three weeks off..can went back to a modified work.  If you can pull it off I do recommend it  - because at week two I was just starting to be able to wear clothes other than sweat pants.  As for sleep apnea - it wasn't required and I didn't think I had it (I don't snore and I sleep through the night)...so I didn't go for the test. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the great advice... I went to my cardiologists yesterday and the NP there who handles the pre testing for weight loss surgery said in my case i should be all set w/out the test. so know i just await for 2 faxes to hit DR.Giovannis office and my appointment should (hopefully)follow soon.  I can take 3 weeks off it I need it, im hoping I only have to take 2. Well I guess we will see... Thanks again Kim
