Cleaning out my closet???

With a lot of nagging on my family's part, I have been told that I *must* clean out my closets this weekend.  I have so many clothes that are too big that are taking up both my closet and the closet in the spare bedroom.   In 5 months I have gone from a size 32 in both shirts and pants to a size 16 shirts/18 pants.  Obviously, I have no use for my old clothes....  but I just can't seem to make myself get rid of them.  I am honestly very anxious about it. I plan on keeping an old outfit to help me remember the changes, but the thought of getting rid of all of my stuff is scary.  These clothes are all that I've known for such a long time and I'm having a hard time with it.  I plan to donate if possible, but other than that I dont know what I'm going to do with them.   Has anyone else experienced this?  If so, what did you do?  Should I just do it and get it over with?  Any and all advice is welcome. ~Laura

I say get rid of them. We hold on to things because we always think we'll need them again. Usually we do find ourselves back in them and even buying bigger sizes.  You have to change your mind set. Getting rid of the old stuff is a way of saying..I don't need and will even need these again!! I do understand wanting to keep one outfit for comparison later but that's about it. Part with it all and move on to the next chapter.

I've begun cleaning out my closet now (as you know) and I'm creating a stack of clothes that will be available here on the 19th. It took a lot for me to be able to beign parting with things as well so I know how you feel, but I like the idea of other WLS patients having the clothes I cant wear any more since I know how fast we go through them.

Hey, I am the same way I have slooooowwwwly started to go throught my stuff. Mine is not thinking that I am going to need them again or be back there (NOOOO WAYYY) but I see $$$$$ I think of the $ spent on those clothes and just cant seem to part with them. I donated like 4 bags to the curch but I feel the same as Angela I would rather give them to a WLS buddy. So keep your eyes posted for clothes available soon. It is a pocess.  DD

Hi Laura, I too had the very same problem with my old "fat" clothes.  I held on to them for a long long time (storing them in several plastic bins),  I too saw $$ signs on the clothes but I thought about it and someone said to me..Carol get rid of them, they are a part of your past "fat" life.  You will never use them again!! I found a freiend of a freind who said she would take them...so off they went into several huge bags ...when I gave them to this person,,,,honestly, I felt a huge weight lift off of me.  I felt different. It felt good to know that someone could use these....as I swore I would never get that heavy again.  My advise to you is get rid of them...You will never fit into them again.   Carol

Hey there! Speaking from the other side of this 'issue'. I received a bunch of beautiful (some brand new, tag and all) from our wonderful OH sister, Sara. I am pre-op and was really in need of clothes because I am at the top of my weight and didn't want to waste money on more clothes, knowing I would be giving them up soon. Anywho.........as always.....I have an idea.......................Okay, everyone who is having a hard time getting rid of your clothes....get together and have a celebration,,,,getting-rid-of-your-clothes party!!!!!! For example: Jane goes to Sally's to pick out clothes to get rid of...Sally goes to Jessica's house, Jessica goes to Jane's house, etc. Or everyone goes to everyone else's, etc. Anyway, it's a thought! Have fun! Jules

I have the opposite problem.  I have a TON of thin clothes (all the way down to size 3).  I refused to get rid of them because "someday I will fit into them again".  I have moved these boxes- a LOT of them, from apt to apt, house to house, storage unit to storage unit.  Some of these things are probably so outdated I could throw an 80's retro party and everyone would have clothes!  I recently brought I box of clothes in that I was supposed to go back to wearing after the birth of my 3rd son (more than 5 years ago).  I am hoping that I will be able to fit into at least some of these soon.  I guess I miss out on all the shopping that you guys get to do- I get to "shop" through my old boxes and totes BTW- smack me if you see me in florecents and a black vinyl mini (lol)

Hey Sara! It's at East Providence Lanes on Newport Avenue (basically, on the E. Prov / Pawtucket line). It's at 7:30. If you'd like to meet there earlier, let me know! You're the BOMB DIGGETY! Like Alexia, I have totes full of clothes too. All too small. I think I even still have a pair of black parachute pants in one of them. I will get rid of those! Jules
