Endoscopy is Wednesday

Once Dr. Pohl receives the pathology report (and fingers crossed there are no viruses found) his office will put in for pre-authorization to Tricare for my surgery. Once they receive the authorization, they will call me for my second/pre-op visit and I will get a date!............Did you have to wait a while for this? I am the most impatient person I've ever met and now that all my tests are complete, it's a waiting game. Yuck! I wish I was already doing the pre-op diet! Happy Monday!   Jules

Yay Jules!!!!!  I'm so excited for you!  I know how bad you want this and I also cant wait for my Angel Duties to start!!!  I received insurance approval by word of mouth on August 14th 2007, I called the office to let them know I was approved and they said they needed to receive the letter from the insurance company in writing before they could schedule the 2nd appointment.  It took about a week and a half for them to receive the letter, I called almost every day, once they had the letter they scheduled my appointment for September 10th.  I would have gotten my surgery date that day but I had gained 20 lbs, so Dr G sent me on my way to lose it...I lost it in 3 weeks and got my 2nd, 2nd appointment for October 10th and my surgery was scheduled for October 23rd!

I know that it seems like this is taking forever, but it will happen before you know it!  Focus on mentally preparing youself for the changes that take place afterwards.  Learn to listen to your body for hunger vs. head hunger.  Take the time to do these things now.  Do you have all of your stuff such as protein drinks for pre-op liquid diet?  If not, I have some good protein powder you can have, I dont need it anymore.  I also suggest getting FF Chicken Broth, SF FF popsicles, bottles of water, crystal light...etc.  We can talk more about all this later.  Like I said, focus on preparing yourself right now!

I am excited to experience this whole journey with you!  Thanks for inviting me along!

Laura :)

Congrats Jules!!!  You sure did get through all of this in a hurry!  I'm with you....the waiting is killing me....I wish I could have gotten in to see him earlier...I didn't realize I migt have been able to if I chose his EP office, but I am going to Johnston to see him (don't want to stray too far from Cranston, ya know).  I think LB's suggestions sound great!  I will consider following those myself..as I hope to be on my way right behind you.  Take good notes!!!  hehehe!!!   Let us know how the endoscopy goes.

I don't have Tricare so I can't say....it took a couple of weeks for my final approval to come through.

I would also shop for your vitamins and suppliments now- you can get better deals online, and since you can wait a few weeks for the order to come in, online ordering is fine for you.  I had trouble finding my calcium citrate locally, but have since placed an order at bariatricadvantage.com they specialize in vitamins for gastric surgeries

Thanks everyone! Laura, great idea! I'm definitely a pre-planner (you know me so well) so this is a good thing. So far, I have decided on Maximum Protein (located at GNC) by Energie Nutrition. It packs a whopping 22g Protein per scoop! It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. It also has MOST if not ALL the recommended daily % of vitamins and minerals and amino acids! I have chosen EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control (located at Target) for my travel, just-in-case, back up protein drink. This has 17 g protein........I am waiting for the Profect (Protica) samples to come in from Bariatric Advantage. Each of these 2.7 oz vials are packed with 25 g protein. I will be taking B12 sublingually.........I haven't found what I want for Calcium Citrate yet. I'll probably do what Alexia does and get the one from Bariatric Advantage......Also I will be taking ONE Flinstone vitamin per day...the Supplement Facts say one for an adult. Plus I will be getting many vitamins from the Protein drink I've chosen.......I'm not sure if I'll be taking Iron or not. I am post-surgical menopausal and have not had an issue with anemia thus far so this all depends on my blood work........................Cara, I'll be happy to give you some samples of these so you can taste-test them prior to buying! We can meet somewhere before the next RW meeting if you want....or I'll just bring them there. In fact, I'll bring everything for any newbies to try too!............See you all Saturday???? Jules

Hi Jules!  I hope this makes sense since I'm "swooshing" right now (read my post to understand). I take the Calcium Citrate from Bariatric Advantage and I love them!!!  I have cherry and cinnamon I'll bring them on Saturday if you would like to try them.   I also use UpCal D which is a little packet that is 500 mg of Calcium Citrate and 250 units of Vitamin D, you pour it in your drink or protein shake and drink it, it completely dissolves and there is no taste, I will also bring this for you to try if you'd like. The only downfall for the BA Calcium Citrate is that each losenge is only 200 mg's of Calcium, so to meet the daily requirements we have to take a lot.  I take 2 UpCal D's and 3 BA Cinnamon, I like it best. PM me, I miss you!
