What would you do??
So, I started the pre-op diet Tuesday. Before that I was eating really healthy, but I was also craaaazzy busy. I didn't really think about the whole "last meal" thing, or take a lot of time to think about starting the liquid diet. I think that was a good thing at the time. I'm doing a lot better on day four of the diet-- I haven't strayed once.
But! I have a dilemma! My friends planned a "last meal" party for me for Sunday night. They got the weeks mixed up :\ They still want to do it.
I will admit it's tempting to do the last meal thing, eating my favorite foods (not going crazy or anything-- protein shakes during the day, meal at night, probably vegetarian mexican food). I'm wondering if I should have that experience. How many of you had a "last meal"? What were the pros/cons?
Do you think having a dinner one night will throw off the pre-op weightloss?
Above everything else I want to be healthy and prepared for surgery. I'm tempted, but not so tempted to risk my health in any way. I'd really appreciate any thoughts on the subject.
How close is it to your surgery? I know Dr Pohl does it in part to shrink the liver. In your liquid diet- you drink 2 shakes then have one meal? Sounds like if that is what is allowed, then it would be ok as long as you don't go crazy. I would also say no alcohol.
I has a "last meal" of sushi. I was told with the band, I would most likely not be able to eat it anymore. Hubby and I went to Oki's for his b-day and my last meal. I was good, didn't go crazy. My Dr also doesn't require a pre-op diet. (but I think he progresses much slower post op)
Right now I'm having three protein shakes a day with 3 oz lean protein and steamed veggies. About 700-800 calories a day.
I'm having an RNY on April 15th.
I'm guessing instead of hitting 800 calories for the day i would end up with more like 1200- 1500 if I ate my favorite foods. I still wouldn't go crazy though, and I don't drink alcohol. But again, I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Ok i did not have a last meal either because Dr. Pohl said to stick to the required diet and if i was to have one it should be before my decision to have surgery. I was supposed to go to Carmine's at Twin River but never had the chance to go with friends and check it out. As far as i am concerned i am glad i didnt go because staying focused on why we make this choice to have any type of WLS is why i was able to remember to stay focused. You are able to go out to eat for a small meal on the liquid diet, just look for healthy choices when making your decision it will help for when you are post op and ready to venture out again. It is your choice to do what you want but you should be just fine.

Good idea. I didnt want to post because I didnt want to be the bad guy to say "dont do it". But honestly, its not worth it. It's not like you cant ever eat again after surgery. You will be able to eat a lot more than you are thinking right now. I also have a different appreciation for food. I enjoy it and it much much smaller amounts.
Good choice.

Good choice.

Weeks prior to surgery I had a last meal planned out but never did it. After surgery, when I started to crave food while on liquids, I wish I had done the last meal thing. However, it was short lived and was only because I was craving food. It really had nothing to do with the "initial" last meal.
Because you are on a pre-op diet...I just wouldn't do it. Once your surgery is complete and you are back on regular foods..you'll be able to eat almost anything...in much smaller portions.
