RNY No NSAIDS......

I have a lot of arthritis, migraines and other chronic pain issues....I currently take Motrin, Vicodin, Fioricet and other NSAIDs for pain. What am I to do after RNY? I know that some of these pain issues WILL get better after the surgery but the arthritis isn't just going to disappear and neither will the rest.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        I've actually been considering DS instead of RNY so I can continue with these. However, Tricare absolutely WILL NOT cover it because they consider it experimental! What to do....what to do??? Thanks, Jules

Julie - you will have to speak about this to your Surgeon or your PCM regarding the arthritis and NSAIDS.  I too suffer from migraines and was fearful that I would be limited to only tylenol - but - I haven't had one since surgery.  I have had headaches, took tylenol and used an ice pack and lo and behold - it worked!!!   good luck to you! Thanks Pam. I hope I can do the same for mine. You've brought hope to my table. LOL

Hi, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis along with osteoarthritis and thought for sure that I couldn't take ANY meds after surgery (RNY 10/07) but I spoke with the pharmacist and he told me all my meds could be crushed. So, after surgery I crushed everything, threw them in some applesauce and was able to do that for about 3 months. Now, my RA won't go away so those meds I have switched back to taking them normally. But the OA has seemed to disappear (knock on wood). Good luck, Tracy

Hey Jules,

Ck with your doctor (s) to see if they have alternative medications or the Pharmacist?

Robin
