Bariatric Nutritionists in RI
I have a question about nutritionists in RI? I go to one now that I feel does not know much about the lapband and or gastric bypass diet. I was wondering if snyone knew of a really good one. I have about 30 more pounds to go to my goal weight but I am not eating so I need to know what I can eat, etc... to lose the remaining weight. I work out twice a week 1/2 hour of personal training and then 1/2 hour of cardio on the same day. I know I need to work out more and have been trying but after the personal trainor I am so sore the next day it is hard for me to workout but I have been pusing myself a little.
I see Peggy O'Neil, who works out of HeathRI, in Cranston and Greenville and she is great. Very knowledgable on gastric bypass diets. She definately knows what food I should be eating and the last time we met she said once I get to goal she will work with me on maintence.
She also looks at every aspect, asks about exercise, how your pouch is handling different kinds of foods, and how you are doing emotionally with the new way of eating and living.

Hi Kristen, I am still pre-op but I have done the required nutritionist appt. I first saw one at the Naval Base in Newport but wasn't sure he knew enough about the needs of bariatric patients for me to stay with him for follow-up so I saw Heather Gagliardi. She is one of the nutritionists who Dr Pohl suggests and she is located right across the hall from his E. Prov. office. I really like her alot and plan to keep her as my nutritionist after the surgery. Her phone number is: 401-490-0900. Jules

Why so sore after the trainer? I do the same for an hr.- twice, sometimes 3x/ wk. & then I use the treadmill for 15 min. or so. I am not usually sore. Do you stretch out after? You need to speak with your trainer. You should not usually be wiped out the next day.
Perhaps stretching out your workouts would work better. Trainer one day, cardio the next. While sometimes I'll skip a day or two- I try to take walks in-between my sessions. It's been too rainy lately to fit in all the walks!
Finding a nutritionist is a good idea. If I don't eat, or eat too little, the weight loss simply stops cold.
Good luck! You've done well!
Thanks so much for all your replys. I do go to HealthwayRI for my nutritionist and had Heather but she left and went to East Providence. Now I have I think Pat their. When I seen her she said I was her first Post Op Lap Band person she has seen. I almost had to tell her the foods we can and can not eat like rice, bread, pasta, raw veggies and all the other stuff we have problems with. My personal trainor goes to Peggy their but I want to make sure she knows her stuff because of my lack of eating. My problem is I don't like to complain about someone. Pat was very nice but I don't think she understands the lapband and now is the time I need someone because I am at a stand still and have 30 more pounds to go which are the hardest to get off. As for me being sore from training, I am sore but I think it is more laziness that I don't workout in between so the soreness gives me a reason not to. I started tonight working out between sessions. I am not using my band to the best of it's ability and it upsets me because sometimes I don't how to use it, if that makes any sense.
