Medical ID bracelets....
I know there are mixed opinions on the need for these after bypass, but I've considered this a few times and I think I've finally decided to get one. Rather than pay $40 for one from Laurens Hope however, I'm going to make my own.
I've done a lot of beading and jewelry work in the past , so thats no problem. Yesterday I did some checking and I've found a source for the tag from one of my old jewelry catalogs and also I found someone who has a limited supply of tags available immediately as well as can do the engravings for me at an unbelieveably low cost.
Now...heres my question. Would anyone else be interested in one? If I get several tags at once I can get them for around $10-$15 or even less for some nice sterling Silver ones (including the engraving) I thought if theres enough interest we could even do the jewlery as part of the unoffical gathering. I have tons of beads and findings that I'm more than happy to give everyone to use to make them and I know a few of us can do jewelry work so it would be a group effort , the people who know how to do it can show the ones who dont and in the end for a very low cost we'd have a nice medical bracelet alerting paramedics to the bypass. We'd make the bracelet interchangeable so that the beadwork could be changed out to coordinate with outfits. I also have chains that would be appropriate for the men to use as well. For those who are lapband or dont feel the need, you'd be welcome to create something without the tag.
So what do you all think? Is this something you'd be interested in?
I dont need anything now, Once I get a better handle on how many are interested I can get a handle on the tags and how many we'll need. The beads, I'll supply (I have lots from when I used to make jewelry and sell it) unless someone wants something specific, then they can always bring their own. I have lots of clasps, wire, etc...so the only real cost to anyone will be the tag and the more people who are interested, the cheaper they become.
You choose what your tag says. Most bypass/band patients have theirs say No NG Tube w/o scope No NSAIDS. These are the type tags that diabetics, asthmatics, etc wear to notify emergency personnel of important medical conditions if they arent able to speak. Some bariatric doctors highly recommend them for patients, others say its a matter of choice. Personally, I feel like I'd rather that information was available for them rather than they put a tube in without a scope and damage my pouch.
They have a red medical emblem on the front and some are big enough to put things like your name, doctors phone, etc on them. You can get an idea of them by going to www.laurenshope.com The tags come in different shapes and sizes, so its kind of a matter of preference for the tag itself (I'll probably go with a small round one that dangles) but you can get a good idea just googling medical ID

What a great suggestion! I would definitely be interested in something similar to what you mentioned - a small dangling oval ID tag (am personally interested in the silver). I was pricing a bracelet recently and it was going to be over $60 for the one I wanted. Just let me know when and how much...

I did a search and put together something really quick to give everyone an idea of the different tags I've got access to. Keep in mind they might not be exact, but you get an idea.
