I need to know...

Ok everyone. I've been having some issues here in the past two weeks or little bit more. Seems I am having bowel problems. I almost landed in the hospital two an a half weeks ago and although I haven't gotten as bad as then, I am still having problems. I am afraid to eat now. I, no matter what I touch, I get told not too. So, I have nothing to eat as far as I am concerned. Pretty much gives you depression just thinking about it. I was eating apple sauce (nsa) and was told today, no can have! I was taking a banana to class because I wasn't around for any meal, told, no can have. I can't have meat... I can't have to much fiber... WHATS LEFT???????????????  I have to get protein in and I'm not even doing that sufficiently (doing whey shots). I've been told take 2 Sennakot a day... wasn't helping properly, now to this I have to add, two Colace AND Milk of Mag at night before bed. I feel this is WAY TO MUCH.    Can anyone direct me into a half proper meals that will give me the balance I should have. I want to eat just vegetables but how can I live that way? Some one please help me here. I don't want to be taking all this crap. I have class at night and it will be quite mortifying if something should happen there.

I'm sorry you're having so many issues Dawn. Why cant you have meat? After the first couple weeks I was allowed meat, it just had to be pureed. How about pinto or navy beans, I'm planning to make a crockpot of those for tomrrow. Awesome source of protein and very tasty when cooked all day in the crockpot the southern way (with a ham bone, or ham flavoring if you cant find the bone)  What about chicken salad and tuna salad? I know during the puree/mush phase I practically lived on tuna salad. I also did chili during those phases quite a bit. I just made sure that when I made it the beef was very finely broken up and I made sure to be careful with the beans. Soups with some protein powder added in might help as well.

I’ll look through my cookbook tonight and see what other suggestions I can come up with. Also try Eggfaces blog http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ She has a section on pureed foods there and tons of great recipes. I’m sure you can find something there that will work for you.

As for the other issue, I did have a problem with that in the beginning, but I used dulcolax and after a few days things were fine again. It does seem like they are telling you to do quite a lot but then, I’m not a doctor so I cant really give you practical advice there. I was going to call you last night and check in, but I got busy with something and didn’t get a chance to. Make sure you let me know how you’re doing, I’ve been thinking about you a lot and wondering how things are going.

I love that place Angela. She has some awesome recipes!  Also, I have been able to eat fish, scallops, shrimp, Lentil Soup. Yesterday, I made chicken balls, carrots. I ate a couple of the chicken things for my supper, right in (the beginning) of class, and ate the carrots (yes, cooked) as a snack.  I was told I could have banana's... can't remember by whom though and applesauce was a given for over a yr that I knew I could have. So, why is it that when you follow, you end up hurting from it? Thats whats bugging me I guess... the fact that I was told I could before and now, its like I should have known better not too. It sucks!

Hi Dawn:

I really dont have any advice on meals, but I do want to say that I am sorry that you are going through this. I can understand how this can be depressing and frustrating because you are trying to better yourself, but just keep your head up. Everything will be fine. Maybe you could try just doing protein shakes as your meals for now. That way you get your protein in and feel full at the same time.

Hope this helps and keep us updated.

Thank you. It can get rather frustrating. I also appreciate that thought LB but the one thing I can't have is protein shakes.... unfortunately, they just sit in my stomach and I feel very sick when is does.

don't bananas and apples bind you?  I was going to suggest lentils, which was a food suggested to me by the nutritionist- but just looked them up nutritionaly- and they are VERY high in fiber (maybe why she suggested them to me)   This sucks you are going through this- sorry I have no advice!  Hoping you feel better soon

Thank you. Yes, they are. I didn't expect any issues from them if I never had issues before the surgery. I was Psyched about being able to have them. It could be me ya know. Maybe I just down right misunderstood and ate them to early of a time. I will admit though, the first time I almost landed in the hospital, I had string cheese, but then again, I was eating applesauce then too.
