Visit today with my PCP

So I saw Dr Green today...on this snowy wintery day.  He had the results of my bloodwork and it was good.  Cholesterol was 158 and my LDL which is supposed to be under 130 is 70.  My HA1C was 7.2, but he thinks it might be up a bit because I was on antibiotics two days before giving blood due to the bronchitis and sinus infections I had for the month of Feb and end of Jan (my long winter sickness taking 3 rounds of antbiotics to cure).   The last time I had it taken it was 7.5, so it has come down.  All liver funtions and blood workups were normal.  My BP was 140/80, and is that same stubborn thing I can never get down, even tho I am on 3 BP meds.  I hope my surgery will cure that problem once and for all.  He checked my heart and lungs, and corotid arteries as well as my femeral arteries, and all were perfect. I spoke to him about the surgery, and my decision to go forward with it.  He told me when I see Dr Pohl for my first visit, he will send Dr Green a letter asking for info on me (this is apparently the way it has worked with his other patients), and Dr Green will then send back a letter to say I am fit to have the surgery.  Dr Green recommended to me to go ahead and have the surgery while I am in such good health, and not to wait until my comorbitites progress and I am not as healthy.  He thinks the timing is right.  I'm thrilled!  Dr Green said he and Dr Pohl would make sure the insurance gets what they need to cover everything. Another visit down - Two more early next week.

That all sounds perfect Cara... I was on 3 BP meds myself.. and now I am on just a 1/2 of 1 pill...and actually.. that is all i am on now, besides vitamins. I was taking 2 Cholesterol meds, Diabeties meds and high BP meds. I went home from the hospital on just BP meds. I came off the meds slowly..and I usually knew when it was time to call the Dr. when I would almost faint when I went from a laying/sitting-sitting/standing position. Like the one day while in TJMaxx scrouching down to get something, standing up and almost falling. SCARY But all is good! My biggest issue is keeping up with exercising(but the snow shoveling is helping me out) and eating before my bloodsugar tells me I need to.

Thanks Tammy!  That is all certainly good news.  Congrats on getting off all those meds!  Aside from being a pain, they are an expense!  I'm getting d*mned tired of paying for them.  I knew that the diabetes goes way once you have the RNY.  I am planning on the band, so I'n sure it will take a while before I can ditch those meds for good, but I plan on getting rid of them at some point on this journey.  And good riddence to it all!! I don't work, so the exercise is easy for me to keep up with - and I really do enjoy it.  I go to the gym 5 days a week for about 2 hrs each day.  I look forward to it and feel like I missed out if I don't go.  I also have a sweet treadmill at home that I use on days I don't go to the gym, or as additional exercise time...it works out well when I want to eat something, so I can just jump on it...but truthfully, I have been choosing to eat instead of using it.  Maybe this should be my mini-goal, eh?

Hey Cara! I'm so happy to hear that your Doc is so well informed AND supports you! My doc is new at this WLS stuff so I guess I'll have to be the one to educate her for a change. I'm glad that Dr. Pohl will send her a letter asking for info. I think it'll make things more defined. I will also be asking my neurosurgeon for a letter of necessity because most of my co-morbids are structural rather than chemical. I'm so PROUD of you! Getting all this footwork done before you appointment. You're an inspiration for me! Jules
