Hi Patti-jo!

I can't answer your questions on the Lap band BUT I am very happy with the RNY! I feel wonderful and the recovery time was not bad at all!  And best of all I am not hungry and the weight is just "melting away"

Good luck!

I love my Band!!!!  1) Dr Giovanni will recommend that you take vitamins regardless of which surgery.  However, with the band they are not as imperative because we do not have an issue with absorbing all of foods nutrients. 2) Not sure about depression meds, but no one has told me to stop taking any medications I am on 3) If you don't chew slowly and don't take small bites food will get stuck.  I don't know if this is an issue with RNY or not.... In the end you have to feel comfortable with the decision you make.  I would have never considered RNY, but that is just me.  You need to figure that out for yourself.

Hi Patti-Jo Congrats on getting so close so quickly. You're almost there. As Danielle said, you will have to take vitamins regardless of which surgery you choose. As for the meds, I would ask Dr Giovanni and see what she recommends as far as that goes, I'm not sure on that. Things can get stuck with RNY as well if you dont chew well or eat too quickly. I would really recommend you read up well on both surgeries, look over the info from the seminar again and try going to the RNY and lap band boards here and gather as much information as you can. Ultimately, you are the one who has to be happy with the surgery you choose and the more information you have the more informed decision you can make.  Good Luck!
