Hi all, i need help with my plans after surgery.  I have an addictive personailty.  I have quit smoking cigarettes but food has always been there.  I realize that at times I eat when i am feeling down or mad or anxious or happy,,, you get the picture.  I am wondering , for people who have had surgery, What do you do now instead of grabbing food for comfort? Thanks I love this site and I am so glad you are here.

I work on craft projects.  Specifically I stamp or jump on the OH boards.  Try to do something that is removed from an association with food.  When that isn't possible, I really try to have healthy snacks in the house instead.  Celery with PB for instance.  You get the comfort of the PB, but on a nice veggie.  The key will be to find something else to do.  Good luck and Welcome!

Hello,

Welcome to the board.   I try to do some type of exercise, read a book, stand out on the porch, anything to get my mind off the food.  It's not easy, I know!!!!!

All the best,

Robin

Welcome!

I find something else to do - clean out a drawer, take the dog for a walk, do something with my son, go on the internet....

Hello Shems. Welcome to OH. I just came home from surgery last Saturday, so no issues yet with food.  But I think I will end up going outside  and gardening and walking.  I have been looking forward to this since Fall/Winter. I love the Spring and Summer!  Not much help, I know... but I figured I'd give you some forth coming thoughts. ~Dawn PS: Luv your Avatar

Hi I'm 2 months post surgery (rny) . I am finding that the desire to eat is not strong at all so. Between the fluids and solid foods my pouch feels constantly full.  I still find I put more on my plate than I can physically eat. I read this forum and others when the mental hunger strikes.  I can promise you that the first time you dump from sugars or fat really helps you to handle the mental hunger ! Dumping was such a miserable experience for me!
