RNY has this happened to you?

I had the RNY surgery 3 weeks ago and I am still doing shakes and cottage cheese or yougrt or cream of chicken soup.  I tried scrambled eggs last week BUT they just sat in my tummy and gave me a bad ache!

I have no desire to try any other foods right now - I am satisfied with the shakes or the substitutes.... I am still content BUT worried!

HI Kim, I was sort of like that too. Found that I had to start off eating extremely slow, smaller bites then you think. It should be better soon.. remember, you're healing and it takes some time! best wishes Tammy

This also happend to me.  It takes a long time for your pouch to heal.  Take it very slow and don't worry.....you pouch will get better in time.  I had my surgery in may of 06.  I didnt eat eggs for a whole year and still at time shave a hard time with chicken and beef.  I dont eat pasta or rice as it sits in my pouch like a lead balloon and gives  me a bad ache/feeling.  I still have to upchuck sometimes although it's not that bad anymore to alleviate that ache feeling.  Other than that, I can tolerate carbs very well and thats not too good.  I have to watch myself on sweets as they go down really well.  At first they didnt but somehow found their way to my pouch and didnt cause any bad feelings.   Good luck and use this time when you can't eat to lose as much as you can, and take those vitamins every day.....they really help when you can't eat all the proper foods.   Carol b

Hi Carol!

Thanks for the info!  I have another question - It has been 4.5 weeks since my surgery and I still am not very hungry! I do eat three meals a day two shakes and one consisting of cottage cheese or cream soup with some mashed potatoes and a veg mixed in... sometimes I will have a popsickle or jello - I am drinking water and a cup of decaf tea inbetween meals  IS THIS OKAY??  I probably could use another source of protein-Right? Do you have any suggestions?

I think you are doing very well.  I drank coffee right from the start, both hot and iced.  I love coffee and found that coffee hit the spot for me.  As for protein, I was low on protein for over a year.  I had and still have a hard time with proteins like chicken, beef etc..I did find that if I eat meat or chicken when it's cold it goes down better. I didn't eat these either for a long time...months and months.  When I did eat them i could only eat very very little...like tiny bites.  I still find that my eyes are bigger then my pouch and still get sick every now and then.  You won't be hungry for a long long time.  Your pouch is still healing.   This is the time when you lose the  most weight.  You may plateau, because you are losing so fast, as your body is trying to adjust to the weight loss and your body is trying to retain the weight.  The plateau doesnt last long and you will then start losing again.  You may lose some of your hair in the coming months, but that doesnt last either.  Good luck and just take it one day at a time.   Carol B
