Hi Patti,

My name is Robin and I want to welcome you to the site.  I went to my pysch eval and i did get approved but the Dr. was a bit concerned about my eating when I am stressed.  I decided that I would attend the group sessions because I felt it could only help me.  The groups are extremely small (3 of us in my group).   I found the sessions to be  extremely helpful.  When I get stressed I try to think of alternatives other than eating (exercise, reading a book etc).   I know it can be so difficult, but you can do it.   My Dr. works out of Rhode Island Hospital so I attend monthly meetings there.  Maybe you can call the Dr's office and find out if they have meetings that you can attend.   The people on this site are wonderful and very,very... supportive.  They are honest and up front. The fact that you are looking for help is a big step.   You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi and welcome! I have only gone to one support group so far, and it is at Roger Williams Hospital, the 3rd week of the month, I believe on Thursdays.  It was nice!  Everyone there was so nice, no smack talk, no judgment.  If you can, give it a try.  Leslie

Patti, Did you have the psych eval done near the hospital, in the Bayside Med Bldg? That's the RIH dept of psychiatry. If you did, then there are support groups at that office to attend. Call them and tell them you want to go to Dr. Laura Messier's weight loss surgery group. There are 2 or 3 a week now, at different times of the day. I went, as did several of the OH members on this board, and it really does help. Good luck!

Patti, Have you considered calling the psych office to see if they have any recommended groups?  Have you considered talking to someone?  Your first step is being able to leave the house.   Please stay in touch and let us know how you make out.

I'm afraid that support group isnt the same thing.   Patti: Dr Zimmerman should refer you to a group for you to attend. Personally, I didnt have to do any group meetings, but I've read and talked to several people who have and in the end it became something that really helped them and gave them a better grasp on their eating habits-which in turn made our tool work better for them and make them more successful. I imagine it does upset you, but try to keep an eye on the big picture. He only wants you to succeed.  Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress!
