I had my surgery (lapband)friday the 11th.  i am doing surprisingly well.  the gas is killing me.  i could not drink anything yesterday because of the gas.  i was in so much pain and sick to my stomach.  i tried to drink but i just couldn't do it.  today was a bit better but im still not drinking the way i should be.  gas is subsiding but is still very bothersome.  is this normal?  i didnt' get to see dr G. after the surgery and i guess she was off for the weekend.  but i am doing well and now all i need to do is heal and start my new life.

Hi Elamy, Yes the gas is normal. I recommend that you walk walk an walk.  Especially right after you drink.  I would do laps around my house.  You can do this!

I rocked back and forth on the bed with a pillow over my stomach.  It rocked the gas out over time.  There is a lot in there, they blow up your abdomen so they can see inside while performing the surgery.  I know it hurts, and I'm sorry you are hurting.  Leslie

It is so wierd.  I waited and waited for the dreadded gas pains, and never got them.  Not that I wanted them, but thank god I never had them.  Sorry to hear your not feeling so hot, you will feel better real soon.  Congrats on your surgery.. jen

Congrats on your surgery!!  Im surprised that Dr. Giovanni didn't come to see you after the surgery.  She stressed to me how she makes a point to come to the hospital the day after surgery....Im sorry you are feeling so crappy.  Hopefully you will feel better soon!!!

Yes, GAS sucks!  I am still getting it after six days after surgery! BUT it is true walking does help!  Was you at Roger Williams? I left there on Saturday afternoon?  We possibly could have passed in the hallway without even knowing!

Best of luck for a speedy recovery!

Thank you all for your supportive responses. Today the gas is a little better but it is still there.  I haven't been able to take any liquid in with all this gas so i think i am bordering on dehydration at this point.  but i am trying.  today was my best day as far as taking in shakes and water.  i actually had one shake and a half glass of tea, since 8 a.m. and it is not 11:30  i know it is not nearly enough but it is all i can manage. yes, kimac61, i was in roger williams and was released saturday afternoon.  i was not in the surgery ward which was not a real good thing because the nurses on my floor were not familiar with this type of surgery(one of them actually told me this) so i don't think i got the kind of care i would have had on the right floor.  I was not pushed to walk, although i did some, and i did not get the counseling on what to expect once i got home.   i was treated well, but i don't think i got the full benefit of what they could have offered me.  Dr. Pohl did come in but he didn't know me and had very little to say, so i more or less came home blind as to what to do and what to expect.  i had no idea about this gas issue.  it has been a real problem for me.  i am doing much better today though and i can't wait until i feel somewhat normal again.  again, thank you all for all your support.  i will try to come on this site more often.  take care all and good luck in your goals.

I used a heating pad or in the hospital they dampened a towel and heated it in a microwave and put it in a pplastic bag and then wrapped it in a dry towel.  It really worked getting rid of the gas.

This is what i mean about not getting the proper benefit from not being in the surgical ward.  i asked the nurse about using heat and she told me not to do it because it may cause bleeding.  so i was afraid to use it.  but i started using it last night,  my daughter in law, who is not only a surgical patient(lapband) but an RN told me that wasn't right told me to use the heat and today its much better.
