My first airplane trip post op...WOW
So hubby and I flew to upstate NY this weekend. I've never been comfortable on a plane, always felt like I was squeezed in, the tray never fully came down, the armrest and the seatbelts- lets not go there.
I was very nervous about this trip because even though I know I'm down a lot, I'm still not small by any means. It didnt help things that we were on an express flight, so a tiny plane and even more cramped! but, once we got on the plane and I sat down my first test was the seatbelt, Imagine my surprise when it buckled easily and I had belt left over! Next, I thought there was no way I could get the tray down comfortably, but it slid right down and there was a few inches to spare, not a lot, but there was room! I looked at hubby with an astonished look and he laughed and said "What did you expect, I told you its very noticeable" God...I love my husband and I love my RNY!
One thing I did have a bit of trouble with was finding things to eat while I was out of town. Especially when our outbound flight got delayed and we had to eat at the airport. Lets just say, I chose what I thought was the lesser evil and got some chicken at one of those chinese type place. It didnt stay with me long and the poor women in the airport bathroom! On a good note, Subway has a mini sub thats 4" and I got to hear a great story from the guy behind the counter after he told me He'd just get a 6" because it ended up cheaper. I informed him that I had a stomach the size of an egg and 4" was plenty. he told me about his mom who had the surgery a few years ago and was so happy now and by his description- a bird..haha. He was very helpful and didnt blink when I pulled everything off the bread and just ate the inside.
So anyways, I just had to come in here today and let everyone know about it. I'm so excited. I'm looking forward to our next trip now, it should be even better!
Isn't it great to finally fit in places that were so uncomfortable before? I had that experience when we took the kids to NH to visit Santa's Village - I actually fit on all the rides (with room to spare!) If we had tried to take them last year, it would have been really embarassing since a lot of the rides had those bars that have to go over your lap for safety, and they definitely would not have closed!
Congrats, and stay away from that nasty airport food! (Next time, maybe pack some of your own food or protein bars for backup!)
Hi Angela!
WOW! That's great! i hope you had a good time with your kids! What did they think of their new and improving mom?
I think that some people should let our airports know about a healthier way of eating for us people who have to eat that way. wll not only will it be a great help to us, but in the long run it would make for a healthier US population!
