Pre-Op Pulmonary Function Test & ABG
Hello Everyone,
I have a question? Did any of you do the Pulmonary function test and when to tech. put in the novacane(sp)(needed blood from and artery) the area swelled up? Mine did and the tech said he never saw that before. He did not take blood from the artery. The swelling went down after and there was no bruising. He told me to be sure and tell Dr. Ryder about the swelling.

Hi Robin,
I had no problem with the novacane (not sure how to spell that either..lol) but they could not find the artery so blood was never drawn. Two people tried so I wouldn't worry about that part. However the swelling is some sort of reaction so don't forget to tell Dr. Ryder about that...that could be crucial during surgery or some other procedure.

Mine was badly bruised too and very sore for a couple of days. It was because they kept twisting and turning the needle with 3 tries each. She kept apologising and then asked the guy that did the test about my results. He said they were great. She said then I'm going to end this...no need to put her through this and to make a note in the chart as to why blood was not taken.
